That was a man right there. And she was going to go on a date with him.
A date. She stood up straight, oh lord. A date. With a guy who looked like he could be a freaking super model.
She turned away, and took a deep breath and let it out, and then took another one.
Okay, this was fine. She could totally go on a date with him. No problem.
Guys like that just magically appeared in thin air to ask shy, quiet nerds out all the time? Didn’t they?
No? Okay, yes. This could be a bad idea.
She looked around, grateful no one was around and pulled up Eryka’s number.
She needed to talk to her friend, right now.
The phone rang once, twice and then her best friend's voice picked up, “What’s up Bren?”
“I just got asked out on a date by a freaking super model or what could be a freaking super model by how freaking handsome he is. That’s normal right? For me to go out with someone that hot? When I am just me? Right?”
Eryka started laughing, “What? Slow down, you did what?”
Brenya sighed, then told Eryka everything that happened between her and Jensynn.
Even his name was hot. Lord. She was not going to survive this.
Eryka laughed harder, “Let me get this straight, you are freaking out because he asked you out? What’s wrong with that? You are gorgeous Bren. Come on, if you weren’t so quiet and gave off a low-key bitchy vibe to most of the guys in high school, you would have noticed them stare at you. You are stunning, miss you should also be a freaking super model.”
Brenya laughed, “Grr. You are not helpful.”
She heard the smile in Eryka’s voice, “Don’t doubt yourself. What would your mom say? Or Grandma Astryd? Huh?”
Brenya let out a frustrated breath, “They would tell me I was being stupid and exactly what you just said. Fine. I just have never seen a guy like him in my entire life.”
“I believe you, but don’t doubt yourself. He asked you out for a reason. And I doubt it was to make fun of you. You said you felt an instant connection to this guy right?”
Brenya nodded, and then realized that her friend couldn’t see and said, “Yes. It was insane. Like when he locked eyes with me across the mall I was instantly attracted to him. Even in the damn Santa suit. And then he came in here, hotter than Brad freaking Pitt, I might add and when he shook my hand? It was like I knew I was waiting for him. Like he is someone important, but I don’t know why.”
Eryka laughed, “Okay then. Don’t push this guy away. The first guy you actually want to date. Not someone that I set you up with that you get out of in the first five minutes. Okay?”
Brenya laughed, “Okay. Fine. I will go out with him. Does that make you happy?”
Eryka chuckled, “It sure does. Take a pic for me. If he is as hot as you say, I wanna see.”
Brenya snorted, “Yes ma’am.”
Eryka snorted too, “I’m going back to work now. Good luck on your date. Don’t put out on the first date. Wait until at least the second.”
Brenya gasped, “Eryka! I won’t be putting anything out.”
Eryka laughed, “Uh huh. Sure. I don’t really believe you. Instant attraction and all that. Have fun keeping your legs crossed.”
Then her friend hung up the phone and Brenya looked down at it in shock and then rolled her eyes.
Her best friend was such a poop sometimes. She loved her.
She had never once wanted to have sex with anyone, but the minute she met Jensynn, that changed. And holy crap did she want him.
She looked over at the Santa display and he was back again, and he must have noticed her looking, because he looked over at her and winked.
