Brenya felt a sour note in her stomach, “He kissed other girls?”
Astryd grinned, “Over eighty years ago. But he hasn’t looked twice since then. He has and always will be faithful to you. Besides, he has a younger brother that is just as powerful as he is and just as sought after. Brander will be paraded around the eligible women soon in hopes he finds his mate.”
Brenya gave a sigh, “This is so crazy.”
Brynn laughed, “Is it really my darling? You have always been surrounded by magic, and our family has always protected you from it. From finding out before you were ready.”
Brenya nodded, “You are right.”
Her mom hugged her, “Go home and think about what we said. I promise you will find out for yourself. Don’t be hard on Jensynn. Telling you this must have been terribly difficult. Since you have human blood, you aren’t bound to a single mate like elves are. And he doesn’t want to lose you. Not when he has waited so long to find you.”
Brenya hugged her mom, and her grandma, and stood, getting ready to leave.
The door opened and her dad and grandpa walked in and Brenya noted that her grandpa didn’t look much older than her dad.
She hugged them both and heard her grandma whisper that they told her about themselves.
Her grandpa came up to her and cupped her cheeks, then kissed her forehead.
“Don’t fret about this love. It takes some getting used to, but I promise it’s so worth it. Finding the one person who loves you through it all? Is pretty powerful with or without magic. Trust in him and us. Okay? Your grandma wouldn’t lead you astray. Neither would your mom.”
She hugged him and then she walked out the door, needing to be alone.
Chapter 9
Jensynn
He finished out the day as Santa Claus one last time.
He told Bryant that he couldn’t do it any longer, and the man hadn’t been happy, but Jensynn could tell in Bryant’s heart that he longed to do it, but had never been given the option.
Jensynn gave him the option now.
And Bryant ran with it, doing both the running of the booth and being Santa.
And the man was a natural. Jensynn was grateful it could work out, as he needed to try to get back to the Pole and try to fix things with his mate.
Jensynn knew the minute Brenya left work and hated that she wouldn’t even look his way.
He felt sick in his soul and his body hurt. His heart ached for her. Called out for her and she had run like he knew she would have.
He left the mall and drove to her apartment, knowing that while he had told Brander it would take two days, that he really needed to get back.
And Brenya was no closer to going with him. He knew that deep inside. But he would leave her a way to get hold of him.
He knocked on her apartment door, and her friend Eryka opened it.
She crossed her arms over her chest and Jensynn could feel that she was curious and didn’t want him to leave, but she was wary of him and wondered what he did to hurt her friend.
“I apologize for bothering you, I just wanted to leave this for Brenya. I have to get back home sooner than planned and I had to make certain she had a way to get hold of me. Will you give it to her please?”
He held out the small orb that would call to him if she needed him and he hoped that she would use it.
Eryka took it and nodded, “I will give it to her. Did you hurt her? Is that why she was so distant this morning?”
He shook his head, “I didn’t try to. I just don’t think she was ready to hear about my past and where I am from. It shocked her and she got upset with me. So tell her I am sorry.”
Then he turned and left without hearing anything else Eryka had to say.
