Chapter 1
Jensynn
Being an elf at Santa’s workshop was not what everyone thought it was.
They all were under the assumption that the elves that worked for the big man himself were tiny, that they were childlike in their size and appearance, had pointed ears, and that they built toys year round.
The toy thing was correct, as was the ear thing, but they had a massive factory that built the toys for them and they were far from childlike or small.
Most of them were over six feet, even some of the women, and the only child like ones they had were actual children.
Though there weren’t many of those, since you had to find your true mate in order to have children or even feel desire for the opposite sex.
Some of them had tried, because life got lonely, but it was hard on them all when it didn’t work out.
It wasn’t easy to have awkward break ups when you worked with the same people day after day and year after year.
He was over a hundred years old and still hadn’t met his girl yet.
It was hell and he had given up trying to find her a long time ago.
The minute he had hit his maturity, he hadn’t looked twice at another female.
He knew that they weren’t his and didn’t want to waste anyone’s time or his.
He shook off his thoughts and knew he needed to check on the big machine that made the most toys.
But, as he was walking to the main warehouse, Nicholas called him to his office as he was not only Santa’s right hand, he was also the head of security for the Pole.
He knocked on the door and waited for Santa to call for him to enter.
Nicholas, the fifth Santa that had taken over after his father had retired, waved him inside, "Jensynn, good to see you."
Jensynn smiled, "What can I do for you Nick?"
Nicholas grinned, "Straight to the point. I like it. I think it's time you found your mate."
Jensynn felt his eyebrows raise. "What do you mean? I have met all the girls around here. Kissed one or two that I thought could be my girl before I reached maturity. They weren't my mate. So I'm not sure I understand."
Nick grinned, "I am taking a small vacation and I have decided you should too. With the agreement that you make your mate yours. I know how lonely it gets and I know you have suffered because you haven’t found her in all these years. My father knew you struggled as well.”
Jensynn started to shake his head and Nick held up his hand, “You and I both know that we need new blood around here. Our way of life is slowly dying because we can't find our mates. You don't want to be responsible for the world to go without Christmas do you?"
Jensynn rolled his eyes, "Dramatic much?"
Nick laughed, "A little, but I'm serious Jensynn. You work too much and you need to find your girl. I'm ordering you to find your mate."
Jensynn blew out an annoyed breath, "You are one to talk. You haven't met your mate either."
Nick looked down, "You're right. I haven't. But I'm going to try to remedy that. Hence the vacation."
Jensynn sighed, "Fine. And just where do I look for this girl who has eluded me all these years?"
Nick shrugged, "Pick a city that calls to you. I guarantee it will point the way."
Jensynn looked at the map of the world on the wall. He shut his eyes when he got closer and let his magic guide him.
He touched the map and when he opened his eyes, his finger was touching a city in Indiana.
