“What do you mean do this? There was nothing between us before I met my girl and there won’t be now. I found my mate. She actually is the one. Mine. I started the bond and even if she doesn’t accept me, I will never touch another. You know this. So why are you acting this way? This is uncalled for and ridiculous. I need you to leave.”

She stood, glaring. “I just thought you would finally see me. I have worked harder than anyone else for years for you to see me. To acknowledge me. And yet, you never did. It hurts. I loved you Jensynn.”

She took a step toward him and he held his hand up, “You don’t love me and I certainly don’t love you. It was a mistake for me to have kissed you, and I know that now. I regret what happened, but you know that I only want and have always only wanted my mate. If it was you, I would have known the minute you hit your age of maturity. It didn’t happen then and it won’t now. I am going to ask Nick to transfer you if you don’t leave this be. If you try to cause grief between my mate and I, or try to come talk to me again, I will be forced to act. Don’t make me do it Mayla. I don’t want to, you are a good worker and someday when you meet your mate you will understand what I am going through.”

Her body deflated and she nodded, “I know you are right and I hate it. I just thought our lines would be strong. And yet you chose a human as your mate. Your children will never be full magic users.”

He shrugged, “I don’t care. And I didn’t make the choice and I don’t regret it. I love Brenya with all I am and will for the rest of my very long life. I need you to leave Mayla, and do not come back.”

She nodded, “I will. I just hoped that you would finally see me. I know a lot of elves who don’t wait for their mate and choose to be happy anyway. Why didn’t you want that with me?”

“I didn’t want that with anyone. Why do you think I never gave anyone a second look? I wanted my mate even if it would take me thousands of years to find her. I didn’t want to settle and I won’t now. You know I can’t touch another and I don’t want to anyway. I am sorry for ever letting you believe that we could be more all those years ago, but you should have left it be the minute you knew I wanted nothing to do with it.”

She sighed, “I know. I just am sad. I want my mate too.”

He nodded, “I believe that. Go find him. Nick won’t care. He wants us to find our mates. For us to build the Pole with more children and to be happy. Go, find him. I know you want to. Just shut your eyes and your magic will lead the way if it is the wish in your heart.”

Mayla looked up at him with hope filled eyes, “Really?”

Jensynn nodded, “Try it. I didn’t believe it either. Or I would have tried it a long time ago. If your mate is ready, your magic will find him. You just have to try.”

Mayla shut her eyes and then she was gone.

Jensynn took a deep breath, glad this was over with. He hadn’t regretted kissing the two elven women at the time, because he wasn’t old enough to know better. But now he did.

He had found his girl and would never look back. He still had hope that she would choose him and went to his room, and lay back on his bed, fully clothed.

He still had a lot to do to catch up from the three days that the machine had been broken and all hell had broken loose up here, but he didn’t care right now.

His heart was aching and his body felt as if it wasn’t whole.

It wasn’t. But he had to push on.

It was all he could do at this point.

Chapter 10

Brenya

After going home, Eryka had left a note on her bed that Jensynn had given her this small little orb thing.

She had held it in her hands and had fallen in her bed, her thoughts racing and needing to work through all the information she was given.

First with Jensynn and then with her mom and grandma. It wasn’t what she expected either of them to say, and yet she knew they weren’t lying.

That Jensynn reallywasan elf that worked for Santa Claus.

It was nuts to even think it, and she shut her eyes, still in shock with it all.

And for the next day, she wrote down each instance that she could think of that her magic had come into play.

In fact, when she went to find a notebook, there wasn’t one. Until she thought of it, and then it was next to her on the bed.

She had thought everyone found things that quickly or just have things appear when thought of.

Had no idea it was something only she and her family did.

She asked Eryka and her best friend looked at her like she was insane.
