He put a finger under her chin, and lifted her face to his.
“What is going on? Why are you crying?”
She bit her lip and shook her head, “It’s nothing.”
This time, he shook his head, “It is never nothing. What is wrong love?”
She collapsed into his arms, “I just worried you didn’t want to be with me anymore. You left in such a hurry and yes, you told me you weren’t going anywhere, but it scared me. I thought you were mad at me.”
He kissed her brown hair, “My Queen. I could never be mad at you or leave you. You are my purpose. My reason for being here. I was upset with myself that something could have happened to you. That I could have been too late.”
She shook her head, “He wouldn’t have tried more here.”
He hugged her tighter, “Good. I hated seeing you so scared.”
She looked up at him, “I knew you would be close by. It helped me.”
He kissed her and then pulled away from her, “I got some food. I hope you like it.”
She nodded, “How did you know I wanted a burger?”
He shrugged, “I have my methods.”
She laughed and they ate lunch together and when they were done and he had to get back to his job, it made his stomach ache.
“Do you want to have dinner at my place tonight?”
She bit her lip when he asked the question and he hurried to say, “We can go somewhere. That’s no problem.”
She smiled, “I would love to have dinner. Can I bring anything? I’m making Agnes come in so she can close.”
He smiled, “I don’t need anything. But do you want to take my car when you are done? You can pick me up when my last shift ends.”
She grinned, “You would trust me to drive your car?”
He smiled, “Of course. What’s mine is yours, my Queen.”
She leaned into him, “Why do you call me that?”
He kissed her red lips, “Because you looked just like an Ice Queen yesterday. In your white coat, hat and gloves. The snow falling all around you like you belonged in it.”
Her eyes went soft, “Okay. That is the cutest ever. Perfect. You are too perfect.”
He laughed, “I assure you I’m not. I sometimes leave my clothes on the floor when it’s been a long day, I leave the dishes in the sink until I need them done and I hog all the covers.”
She laughed, “How do you know you hog them all?”
He smiled, “Because my bed is big, I wrap in them like a burrito. I don’t know how to share them.”
She bit her lip again, “Have you ever had someone complain about it?”
He went still, hearing the note of jealousy in her voice, “Never a woman. But Brander didn’t like having to share a bed with me when we were younger. Said I stole his covers every single night. He had to get his own blankets, because I always figured out how to hog them all.”
She snorted, “This might be a problem. You see, I don’t share my covers either.”
He laughed, and then tickled her side, “We will figure it out my Queen.”
She kissed him, “You better go. I can see the elves setting up.”
