Chapter 7

Mila

When they pulled back into the parking lot, her cousin was out there, pacing back and forth, on his phone and gesturing wildly.

When he saw her in the front seat, he let out a breath and hung up his phone.

He hurried to the truck and opened the door and pulled Mila free.

Reid got out and came around and Miles held up his hand, “You listen here, if you hurt her, I will kill you.”

Reid grinned, “Sorry about that. I didn’t hurt her. I thought she was on a date with another man. I mean she was, but I didn’t know that you are her cousin. Sorry about that.”

Miles glared at him, and Mila punched him, “Don’t be an ass. I think it was super romantic. Though you still probably messed up your shoulder. You could have really hurt yourself!”

Reid laughed, “I am fine. I swear. The doctor gave me leave to not wear my sling and to get back to normal. Slowly. I am sorry for stealing her away. Well, not that sorry.”

Mila felt a blush creep up her cheeks and she knew Reid was smiling.

She shook her head and Reid held out his good hand to Miles. “Names Reid Collins.”

Miles sighed and then shook Reid’s hand, “Miles Weston.”

Miles handed Mila her purse, “I called Nana and your mom after Reid took you. Both didn’t seem shocked in the least. Tell Malena I am sorry for yelling at her. And for hanging up on her.”

He looked sheepish and Mila laughed, “It’s okay. Come on, let’s finish dinner. Reid, please join us this time.”

Reid grinned and then kissed her. “I would be thrilled to eat with my fiancée and her cousin.”

Miles turned shocked eyes on them, and Mila let out a groan and then pointed to him, “Don’t breathe a word of this to anyone.”

Miles held his hand up in surrender and then Mila turned on Reid, “It isn’t official until I have a ring on my finger. And you, ask me properly.”

Reid laughed, “Deal. Okay, lead the way.”

They spent the rest of the evening talking with Miles and finding out about his work with his boss Gunner Powell and his real estate empire.

Since it was after Halloween, his boss was on his honeymoon with his wife of just a week.

Miles said that they got married within a week of knowing each other and told them the story of them.

Reid started laughing, “That seems to happen here too.”

Miles laughed, “Oh really?”

Mila listened to Reid as he told Miles about Brek and Sienna, Trace and Emery, and Scott and Stacy.

He told Miles didn’t know Scott and Stacy well, or Brek and Sienna, but as Emery was his little sister and had been swept off her feet quite literally by Trace, that he was well aware of just how quickly some love moves.

He told them how Kian finally got Karalee to forgive him and that they were in Chicago right now, finishing up the last case that the brothers worked.

Mila sat in awe as Reid told them about it and Miles sat back in his chair, shocked.

“Wow. I couldn’t do what you do. Never in a million years.”

Mila laughed, “You faint at the sight of blood Miles, of course you couldn’t.”

Miles rolled his eyes, “Fine, but being a cop and putting your life on the line every day? No thanks.”
