Reid wanted to growl, but knew Nikolai wasn’t even looking at Mila that way.
“Since you are already here, will you stay for our wedding? Or do you need to get back? It won’t be for another two weeks or so.”
Nikolai looked at Dmitri who shrugged, “We have nothing in Chicago to rush home for. We would love to see your town.”
Reid grinned, “Great. As soon as I’m out of here, we can show you around.”
Nikolai smiled and another knock sounded on the door.
Kenzie peeked her head in and Mila, who had sat down next to him again, sat up. “Kenzie! What are you doing here?”
Kenzie walked in the room with a smile on her face, “I work here, remember?”
Mila laughed and stood to hug her sister.
Nikolai had gone still, and his dark brown eyes tracked Kenzie across the room.
Reid put his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing and when Kenzie made it to his bedside, her honey gold eyes widening when they landed on Nikolai.
Nikolai stood, and held his hand out to Kenzie. She put her hand in his and Nikolai kissed the back of it.
Reid bit his lip and then Nikolai purred, “Hello there Treasure. I had no idea angels worked in the hospital.”
Kenzie spluttered and went red, and Nikolai kissed up her arm a little, to the soft skin of her wrist, before sucking the skin there softly, “I am Nikolai Mikhail, my treasure, what is your name?”
Kenzie was looking down at her arm and then she looked back up into Nikolai’s eyes. His black hair was pushed back from his face, and he was dressed in jeans and a black t-shirt.
“Um, I’m Mackenzie Thomas. Mila’s sister and I’m a nurse here.”
Nikolai grinned down at her, “It will be Mikhail soon enough.”
Kenzie’s eyes went wide and then her blush deepened, “You better take me to dinner first before you start proposing.”
Then she pulled her hand from his and walked to Reid’s bedside.
“How are you feeling? Do you need any pain meds? How is your shoulder?”
Reid gave a tiny shrug, “It’s fine. Really.”
Kenzie put her hands on her hips, “We talked about this Reid. Don’t be the tough guy.”
Nikolai had come up behind Kenzie, and put his hands over hers, “Yes Reid. Don’t be the tough guy.”
Kenzie melted into him for a second and then she pushed him away as if remembering she was working, “You stay over there. I’m doing my job.”
Mila snickered behind her hand when Nikolai pouted down at her and Reid couldn’t hold it anymore and threw his head back and laughed.
Dmitri started laughing too and Mila fell into a fit of giggles at his side.
Kenzie stomped her foot, “This isn’t funny.”
But she smiled after a few seconds, the mirth dancing in her golden eyes, “Okay,” she pointed at Nikolai, “You stay over there, let me work. You can take me to dinner later.”
Then she turned and pointed at him, “You need meds. Yes, it will make you sleepy, but you need them.”
Reid nodded and then smiled. “Fine.”
Kenzie nodded and walked from the room, and Nikolai turned and looked at him.
