Nikolai’s father had immigrated here from Russia when Nikolai was ten years old and had set up the criminal underground that had made them wealthy.

But to Nikolai, that money was tainted with blood and he hated what his father did to make their money and refused to spend it or use it.

He made his own money from when he was sixteen years old and did all he could to separate himself from his family and their legacy. He didn’t want it attached to him in any way.

Until one day, his father Serge had been shot in the back.

He'd survived but was now wheelchair bound and dependent completely on others.

His wife, Anya was taking care of him, and because he was no longer able to be the head of the Mafia he started, his son had taken over his business.

But he didn’t do what Serge did. No, Nikolai had seen enough of the pain and hardship that his father had brought on people because of his criminal activities.

And he didn’t want that anymore. Didn’t want it to begin with. He would do all he could to clean up the operation his father had started.

He wanted a different life for himself, his mother and for his younger sister, Natasia.

She was seventeen now, and while Nikolai was only twenty-four, he had been at the head of the organization since he was eighteen and had done all he could to clean up the organization.

He had no patience for those who refused to follow the new way of life and those men would suffer for it.

Nikolai often turned in his men for not going along with his new rule and had become the savior in the city, although according to Mark he was the devil.

But what Reid found out was that Nikolai was a good and fair man who wouldn’t hurt a fly.

He and Reid had become friends. Which shocked Reid to no end.

After all, Nikolai was supposed to be this horrible, evil man spreading evil through the city, but he was not that way.

He was doing his best to clean up the city, but it seemed as if he was being thwarted at every turn.

Reid knew how frustrated Nikolai was and it bothered him as well to know that no matter what they did, their efforts to help the city were being turned away.

Reid still did his job and did his best to find any fault in Nikolai and his operation, but he could find none.

He dug and dug but kept hitting dead ends and found that Nikolai wasn’t the man that Mark painted him to be.

At first, he wasn’t expecting that. But as the weeks bled into months, he learned that not everything was as it seemed.

And his entire belief system was thrown out the window.

Until one night, men with dark souls came to steal it all from Nikolai, deciding he was too soft, and too kind. They were caught in a fire fight with a gang that wanted Nikolai’s operation for themselves.

Or so he thought.

It turned out to be the cops from his precinct, coming in, guns blazing, wanting an arrest before he was ready.

Reid had seen a lot of Nikolai’s men be arrested and some shot because of their resistance.

They were only defending themselves from harm against those wanting blood, and yet they were the ones arrested.

Reid was running around, trying to figure out what was going on, and trying to keep from getting shot himself.

He was doing his best to keep more men from being shot, trying to de-escalate the situation, and saw his worst nightmare come to life.

He watched in horror as Nikolai heard someone come up behind him, turn around, talking to the man for a second, and bring his gun up, shooting the man point blank in the chest.

Reid tried to run to his side, and when he got there, the man was on the ground, no gun in sight and a badge peeking from the man’s belt.
