“Reid. My name is Reid Connals.”

He knew Mark wanted him to give Nikolai a false name, and Connals was as close to a false name as he could give.

They hadn’t really discussed it, which was weird to Reid, but he couldn’t care at this point, it was too late now.

“Reid Connals. You are certainly unexpected. Come to my house tomorrow and we will discuss the matter of your employment.”

Reid nodded and turned away, knowing that it had been a bold move to do what he had, but was proud of at least getting one foot in the door. He was a little shocked he hadn’t been shot. He walked from the club and hurried to his apartment.

He locked the door and leaned against it, the thin wood acting as a barrier against the outside world.

His cell phone rang in his bedroom and he hurried over to it, wondering who was calling.

It was Kaylee. He grinned and answered, “Hey there princess. How is my Kaylee bug?”

“Reid! I miss you! How is your job?”

He gave a small laugh, “It’s a job. How are you?”

She giggled, “I wanted to tell you that got a job too. I work at the animal shelter.”

“Oh, Kaybug. That's so great. I'm so happy for you.”

“Thanks Reid. I just wanted to tell you about it.”

“I'm glad you did. I'm happy for you Kaybug. You love animals.”

“I know! I even get to hold them and play with them. It’s part of the job.” She giggled and he smiled, “I bet those animals will love you Kaybug. You are going to be so amazing with them.”

She giggled again, “Thanks Reid. I will send you pictures. Okay?”

He chuckled, “Can’t wait. Hug a kitten for me.”

She laughed, “I will. Have a good night Reid.”

He smiled when she hung up the phone.

He needed to get his head in the right space for tomorrow. He let Mark know that he got an interview with Nikolai and when it would be.

“Good work Collins. Keep me informed with every step of the way. Find the evidence we need. I want to nail this guy down.”

“Will do sir.”

Mark hung up the phone and Reid took off his clothes down to his boxers and lay down.

He needed to do this job and do it well. If not more people in the city would get hurt and it would be his fault.

He couldn’t have that on his conscience so he'd do all he could to get Nikolai put away for a very long time.

Or so he thought.

Over the next six months, Reid worked for and with Nikolai side by side. And found that Nikolai was truly a good man and not what Mark had portrayed him to be.

He was doing all he could to protect his family. He and his best friend and right-hand man, Dmitri Romanoff.

They weren’t the boogey man lying in wait. He was not like that at all.
