So he pushed a judge and was able to finally get a warrant on charges that were completely false, -but the judge didn’t need to know that- and the police stormed Nikolai’s home.
Mark hoped and prayed that both Nikolai and Reid would be caught in the firefight that had ensued, but neither man was hurt.
He would change that. They both had to die. They knew too much, and he wouldn’t let them find any more.
He had to get rid of them but do it in a way that no one would suspect him, and with one quick nod, his top enforcer was there, dressed in the uniform of a cop and had come up behind Nikolai. Both Mark and he knew that he was there for one thing and one thing only, to kill Nikolai once and for all.
But the stupid man had made a noise, wanted to show off, and Nikolai had swung around and with two quick shots, the man was on the ground.
To everyone else, it seemed as if Nikolai had killed the man in cold blood, even Reid believed it and when Reid arrested his friend, Nikolai tried to get him to listen, to explain what had really happened, but Mark stepped in then, keeping them far apart.
Nikolai had been placed in prison without bail for the death of an officer and was still sitting there still, awaiting the trial that kept getting pushed off and pushed off.
And Mark made certain that Reid was transferred to a new precinct. That he was too close to the case and didn’t want to cause anything to be thrown out in court, and as such, made him leave.
Reid was gone without a fight. He stayed around for a few years in a different precinct but kept his nose down and didn’t call attention to himself.
For that Mark left him be and wouldn’t pursue him, for now anyway.
He just had to get to trial for Nikolai, lock him away forever and that was the end.
He hoped. He could only pray that the lawyer didn’t find the discrepancies from that night.
He hadn’t yet, but it could still happen. Mark needed him to hold on for a few more months.
That was it. And then he would take over that half of the city and he would be the ruler of Chicago.
Nothing would stop him. Not for much longer.
