Reid looked over at Kenzie and she smiled, “So, Reid. Where are you from?”
Reid smiled, “My family is from Illinois. But my parents moved to Scotland, which is where my mother is from. I was a cop in Chicago for just over three years. And my brother, sister and I decided to move here after our grandmother got severely injured in a break-in gone wrong.”
Malena looked over at him, “Your grandma was the woman who got stabbed in the break-ins?”
He nodded, “She was. It was a random break-in, but she was hurt, and my siblings and I knew she needed help. So, we left our jobs and came here.”
He told them about Emery’s stalker and how she had been kidnapped and then the bomb that Trace had stepped on accidentally.
How he had made the decision to push Trace off the bomb to save his life, knowing that he would most likely not survive it.
Mila put her hand on his leg and felt how tense he was.
He went still when she put her hand on his leg, and her touch seemed to calm his tense body.
He finished his tale with how he met her at the wedding the other night.
Everyone started asking him questions and Nana and Gramps came back with a large plate of food that Reid ate with relish.
And by the time they left, her family was as in love with him as she was.
She couldn’t believe that this man was hers.
He was starting to wince when he would turn a wrong way and she knew his medicine had worn off long ago.
Her mom noticed, as did Mackenzie. Her sister looked into his eyes, “Mila, he needs to get his meds. He is in so much pain.”
Reid tried to wave it away and Kenzie shook her head, “No. You need to get home. Take your meds. It won’t help your recovery if you don’t keep up on them. Don’t be the tough guy.”
Reid started laughing and Mila smiled, “What is so funny?”
Reid titled his chin over toward Kenzie, “She sounded exactly like my nurse in the hospital. She would get on my case too.”
Kenzie laughed, “Hey, us nurses have to remind guys like you that they can actually be human and feel pain.”
Reid nodded, “You're right. Well, I do appreciate you as a nurse.”
Kenzie looked over at Mila, “If you need help with him at all, let me know. I can and am willing to help.”
Mila looked up at him and he winked and then kissed her, “Whatever you want babe. I'm happy having you as my sexy nurse.”
Her dad laughed, “Whoa now. None of that.”
Mila let out an embarrassed squeak and Malena hit Matias on the shoulder, “You stay out of this. I like him.”
Mila groaned and Reid laughed, “Don’t worry. My family is like that too. Thank you all for the food and the conversation. It was such a pleasure to meet you all.”
He hugged Kenzie carefully and then shook Gramps’ hand and Matias’ hand.
He kissed Nana on the cheek and then did the same with Malena.
Then Mila took his hand and laced her fingers through his and led him to the car.
She drove him home quickly and he helped her unlock the front door.
Grace was in the sitting room and she stood, “Oh Mila. Thank you so much for helping him. Reid, your meds are in your room ready to go. Rhonda took care of it today.”
Reid nodded and thanked Grace who shut the front door behind them and then gave them each a quick hug.
