Prologue

Reid

Growing up as the oldest of three kids was something Reid loved.

For one, it caused him to be more aware. He was always willing and wanted to help his mom and would figure out what she needed before she needed it.

She would be shocked when he did so and she'd always say his observation skills were crazy for him being so young.

As he grew older, he kept up his powers of observation, often shocking people with how he knew most things that even adults could barely fathom.

He didn’t always like his gift and had seen and noticed some things he would have never wanted to notice.

He would often turn to reading to escape and it helped that he liked to read and would remember everything that he read. He aced all of his tests, and never had homework.

School was quite boring for him, and he took as many classes as he could, and still never had any issues.

He helped Kian sometimes with his homework and not only was Kian grateful, so was his ma.

When he was old enough to truly notice girls, yet he never once asked a girl out.

He used his skills often whenever he thought a girl was cute. He would watch them without their knowledge and see that even though they had beautiful faces, they had ugly personalities.

It made him never want to even give any girl his attention.

He stuck to himself and didn’t mind it one bit.

He knew he would find his girl one day. The one meant for him, if he was patient. Kian already found his and had known from the start that they were meant to be together.

Reid wasn’t blind and yet Kian often was. But nonetheless, he helped Kian defend Karalee’s honor and had wound up with a broken nose.

It had hurt like a bitch, and only made more girls think he was the dark and dangerous type.

He wasn’t. He just knew the girls liked him because he was strong, silent and had his dirty blonde hair that he had to keep sweeping out of his eyes.

Add the broken nose and the slight bump that it left behind, he was the dangerous bad boy that all the girls wanted.

He had to roll his eyes multiple times when someone said that.

Except again, he gave none of them the time of day.

He was polite to those who were polite to him and that was about all. His favorite thing about school was when he got to spend one hour with the special needs class that he helped with.

The girls and boys in that class were sweet and he loved spending time with them.

They had their issues, but he didn’t care. These were the ones who showed their true selves and didn’t apologize for it.

And with each day that he went to help in that class, he fell more in love with the student's there. One in particular and when she asked him to a dance, it was the only dance he attended.

Kaylee’s mom Heather was over the moon when he accepted her invitation. And when he came and picked her up for the dance, she didn’t stop taking pictures.

Reid had brought Kaylee a bouquet of flowers and a corsage to wear that night and Heather had bought him a boutonniere that he had worn with pride.

He adored every second of that night and Kaylee was voted Homecoming Queen and it was another special moment that he loved.

Having their picture on his wall was something that got him through the hard times and Kaylee called him almost every day that year.

They became such good friends and Reid was grateful for her and loved her friendship. It was something he cherished.
