An entire staff of nurses and doctors came in and Kian and Trace were asked to leave while they checked his bandages and gave him more meds.

When they walked out they were able to take off their gear and a nurse told them they could come back in an hour.

Trace and Kian walked back down to Emery’s room.

When he opened the door, Grandma Viv was on the chair he had sat in before and a woman who looked just like Emery sat on the bed.

Emery was asleep, and when the women looked over, the older Emery stood and ran to Kian, hugging him tightly.

“Ma, it’s okay. Reid is okay.” He said as the woman cried for a minute in his arms.

Trace stood there, not sure what to do, so he went to Emery’s side as the woman bombarded Kian with question after question of Reid’s condition.

Trace pushed Emery’s hair out of her face and kissed her forehead softly.

He was tired, his body wishing for sleep, but knowing it wouldn’t happen anytime soon.

Grandma Viv stood up and came around the bed to his side and hugged him softly.

“So, my little Emmy girl told us that you asked her to marry you. Is that true?”

He nodded, “I almost lost everything today and I don’t want to live without her. I want her to be mine. I haven’t had much in my life and I only recently reconnected with the sister I thought was lost to me forever. I know how short life is. So yes, I asked her to be mine and she agreed.”

Grandma Viv grinned at him, “Good. I assume you haven’t bought a ring yet?”

He shook his head, “Not yet. No. I need to do that soon.”

She shook her head, “No, you don’t. Ailith and I have been talking. She and I both want you to have the ring that has been passed to the women in the family. It was my grandma’s and my mom’s. And then it was mine and Ailith’s. Now, it’s Emery’s. It’s good luck and brings love to those who wear it.”

Emery’s mom came over and hugged him and nodded, then she pulled a diamond ring off her finger and handed it to him.

It was gold, with a large oval diamond in the center and the band was covered with tiny diamonds all over it.

He held it up and studied it. Realizing how perfect it was for her.

Classic and beautiful like she was.

He looked at Grandma Viv and Ailith. “Thank you. For letting me give this to her. It will mean the world to her.”

Ailith hugged him again, “Thank you for loving her. And for saving her.”

He hugged her back, “You're welcome. I'm only mad that she was put in that position in the first place.”

Ailith looked up at him, “It wasn’t your doing. You were there when she needed you. That was what matters to me.”

He gave her a small smile, “Thank you.”

Ailith squeezed him one last time, “You need to get some sleep. We will watch over her and let you know when she wakes.”

Trace shook his head, and Ailith put her hands on her hips, looking so much like Emery that it made him quirk a smile.

“Okay. I'll be back in a few hours. Text me if she wakes.”

He gave his number to Ailith and then with one look at Emery and the ring in his pocket, he walked from the room.
