Trace hung up the phone and got in his car and drove to Emery’s house.
He knocked on the door, and held the bouquet in his hand.
She opened the door wearing a light pink dress and white flat shoes.
Her hair was curled around her hips and the waterfall of silky strands made him long to shove his hands in her hair.
He held the bouquet of roses out to her and she grinned down at them. “They're so lovely! Thank you!”
She leaned forward and kissed him softly and hurried into the kitchen to put them in a vase. Her grandma walked in from the hallway and smiled.
“Good evening ma’am. I'll have her home by 12.”
Grandma Viv waved her hand, “Bring her home whenever and call me Viv.”
Emery blushed and Trace smiled, he grabbed her by the hand and pulled her from the house.
She laughed and he kissed her on her smiling lips.
He buckled her in the front seat and hurried around to his, getting behind the wheel.
He picked up her hand as he drove, “I was planning to take you to a beautiful restaurant, but I changed my mind.”
She raised an eyebrow, “Oh. I guess that is fine. I don’t understand why though. Do I not look okay? Or, oh. Um, I don’t know who you dated in the past, but I don’t put out on the first date.”
He looked shocked, “Whoa, Sunshine. You have it all wrong. Whatever you're thinking right now has to stop. I didn’t mean it like that. I've never been on a date before. I just had a different thought in mind for our first date. Not the cliché dinner at a restaurant. And you're my first kiss, woman. I'm glad you haven’t put out on the first date. Though it wouldn’t matter to me if you had.”
“I’m your first kiss? Really?”
He smiled, “Yes. Why do you find that so hard to believe?”
She grinned, “Have you seen yourself? You are so sexy it’s almost not fair.”
He threw his head back and laughed, “I assure you I see my face every day in the mirror. It’s nothing remarkable. Now you on the other hand are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. I thought so when I saw you trying to kick that box out of your car. Your hair everywhere and the fierce look on your face. I wanted nothing more than to help you. And I'm grateful I did.”
She smiled shyly at him, “Well, you're my first kiss too. And my first date. My brothers never let men near me.”
He leaned over and kissed her quickly. “Well that makes this night even more special and I don’t want to just go eat at a stuffy restaurant. I want to show you a little about my life. Can we get some food to go and I will show you my favorite spot here?”
She nodded, and they ran into the cafe and ordered some food to-go.
Mila was there and grinned at them, and came around the counter, hugging Emery close.
Trace grinned and didn’t let go of Emery’s hand as Mila hugged her. “What can I do for you?”
She asked after hugging Emery. “We need some food to go. Thanks Mila.”
Trace ordered what he wanted, and Emery looked at the menu quickly and told Mila what she wanted.
Mila grinned and walked in the back, telling them their food would be ready soon.
Mila brought their food out within minutes and Trace thanked her and gave her a large tip after paying.
Then he pulled Emery from the cafe and they drove to his favorite spot in the mountains.
Ironically it was the turn right after Sienna’s house and when he had first moved here he always wondered who lived in the small house on the outskirts.
He wanted to kick himself for not checking it out, but knew it worked the way it was supposed to.
