Hopefully she would decide to come. Emery missed her best friend and wanted nothing more than to have Karalee meet Trace.
Emery: Hey girl! Long time no talk to.
Karalee: My thoughts exactly. Did you get sucked into the small-town life already?
Emery: Sure did. I now look completely different. As my identity has changed since I drove up. I turned into the All-American Girl next door.
Karalee: *Snort* Geez. I miss you.
Emery: I miss you too. Are you coming yet?
Karalee: Yes. I don’t want to live here without you and I can do my classes online anyway.
Emery: Good. I need you here with me if I am going to deal with Kian and Reid. Those insufferable men drive me nuts.
Karalee: Yes, I know. That’s what big brothers are for.
Emery: *eye roll* Well, either way I need you. Besides, I met someone.
Karalee: You didn’t.
Emery: I did.
Karalee: Is he hot?
Emery: What do you think?
Karalee: Lucky girl. I will be there in a few days. Can’t wait to meet him
Emery: I can’t wait either. Be safe. I will have your room ready.
Karalee: Kisses! Xoxo
Emery: Xoxo
She put her phone away and Grandma Viv looked over at her, “So, is she coming?”
Emery nodded, “Yes! I am so excited. Now, I need to find a job and then life here will be perfect!”
Mila came back over with a slice of pie on a plate in her hands. “The Sheriff station is hiring. They need someone to help answer phones and to man the front desk so that they have more help. They just have one girl and she gets overwhelmed sometimes.”
Emery raised her eyebrow, “Really? That sounds kinda fun.”
Mila laughed, “And added bonus, you would get to work around the yum that is Trace and Brek.”
Emery laughed too. “Well that seals it for me. I'll go and apply. Thank you, Mila.”
Mila nodded and Emery dug into the pie. Once again moaning at the taste of the buttery crust and sugary filling.
Grandma reached her fork over and cut herself some. “Don’t hog all the pie over there girl. Share the wealth.”
Emery laughed and together they polished off the pie and their shakes.
The fries were put into a to-go box and Grandma was more than happy to go to the police station so Emery could fill out an application.
Walking into the station, there was a woman at the desk, and she smiled when they walked in. She was wearing a headset and held up one finger.
“Yes ma’am. I understand. I will send Scott over there to find your dog, don’t worry. It will be fine. I am sending him now.”
