Chapter 7
Emery
Driving to the hospital, Emery practically bounced in her seat. She was so excited to bring Grandma Viv home it was ridiculous.
She sang along with her radio and when she pulled into the parking lot, checked to make sure everything was ready for her Grandma to be comfortable.
Walking to Grandma Viv’s room she knocked softly and when she heard her grandma call out, she walked in with a smile.
Grandma Viv looked up and smiled at her and opened her arms for a hug.
Emery hurried into them and breathed her Grandma’s scent in.
She had missed her immensely and was glad she was here now.
Grandma pulled back and cupped her face. “How is my darling girl? Have you been eating like you should?”
Emery smiled, “Yes Gran. I promise, I am eating.”
Grandma smiled back, “Good. I am so happy you are here to stay with me. Are you sure I’m not making you leave anything?”
Emery kissed her grandma’s soft cheek. “I swear it grandma. I love your cute little house and I'm already loving the town. They make some sexy men here.”
Grandma laughed, “Oh is that so? I'm afraid I haven’t had much chance to see most of the local men yet.”
Emery laughed as well, “It’s so. I met the Deputy the other day. He saved my butt from falling to the dirt.”
Grandma smiled, “I want to know all about him. I’m afraid I didn’t get to see them when everything happened. But I do know how kind they were to me.”
Emery kissed her cheek again, “They sure are. Come on. Are you ready to get the heck out of dodge?”
Grandma Viv smiled, “Let’s go. I already signed the papers before you walked in for my release. But you do have to push me out in a wheelchair. My nurse insisted.” She huffed out an annoyed sound and rolled her eyes.
Emery laughed, “Come on. I'll find that wheelchair.”
The nurse helped wheel Grandma out to the car and hugged her goodbye.
Then they were off. Grandma rolled the window down on her side and waved her hand out the window.
“It's been too long since I had fresh air like this.”
Emery rolled her window down too and they drove down the road to the house.
Grandma stopped her, “Can we get some shakes? The ones from the small cafe are pretty good. I wasn’t here that long, but on my first night here, I stopped in and was impressed.”
Emery laughed, “Of course. Show me the way.”
Grandma Viv pointed the way and the cafe was situated right next to the small police station.
Her eyes lit up and Grandma laughed. “He's in there isn’t he?”
Emery bit her lip and nodded, “He sure is. Working his day away in his sexy uniform.”
Grandma Viv laughed, “I can’t wait to meet him. The first man to ever catch your eye.”
Emery laughed, and looped her arm through her Grandma’s. “He sure is. Come on, let's get one of those shakes.”
Grandma pulled her arm in tighter, “Sounds perfect. You're going to love them Emee girl.”
