Ailith gave a soft sigh, “I love you too my darling. How is the house? Did everything get cleaned? Is grandma coming home tomorrow?”

Emery walked to the kitchen, her phone on her shoulder and her coffee in the other hand. “Yep. She gets released tomorrow. So, I'm going to clean and get some groceries.”

“That’s good my love. I am proud of you. How was moving? And the drive?”

Emery chuckled, “Other than the car overheating, the drive was great. Moving? Not so much. While unloading my car, one of the boxes ripped and I almost fell but a sexy deputy caught me. I didn’t know I would meet someone like that.”

Her mom gave a soft chuckle. “That does sound like you. My sweet clumsy girl. What is his name?”

Emery smiled, “Trace Barker. Mom, he is unlike any man or anyone I have ever seen or met. Like he was trapped on a farm his entire life and fed only vitamins that make your muscles grow and turn into a sexy giant. I don’t know. I swear to you, they must grow them differently here. He's tall and has dark brown hair and green eyes and his jaw could cut glass. He is just,” She let out a breath, “Yummy. That is all I can describe him as.”

Ailith chuckled again, “Yummy? You best not let Kian or Reid know.”

Emery gave a face even though her mom couldn’t see it. “I won’t. But when they get here in a few days, they will see him. Ma, he is so different. And I feel like I know him. Like he is someone important. Like he is meant to be mine.”

Ailith gave a small wistful sigh, “That was how I felt when I met your father, my love. If you think he is someone important, then you grab it and don’t let go. Aye?”

Emery smiled. “Aye ma. I won’t. We are going out tonight. I will send you a picture tomorrow and call you then so I can tell you how it went. Okay?”

Ailith laughed, “Can’t wait. Have fun and call me if you need to.”

Emery laughed too, “I will. Give dad my love.”

“I will. Don’t you worry. And call Kian. Please. It soothes him.”

She sighed again, “Fine. I will.”

“There is my good girl. Chin up love, you have a date tonight.”

Emery laughed, “I sure do. Love you ma.”

“Love you too darling.”

Emery hung up and called Kian. “Kian,” she started but he cut her off, “I know that Reid and I are being complete assholes, and we're sorry. We have a good reason to worry this time and you know it.”

She rubbed her forehead, “I know Kian. But Lance hasn’t contacted me in at least a month. And I just moved three states away. He can’t find me.”

Kian let out a breath in the phone, “You can’t know that Emery. You just can’t. Being cops, Reid and I know better than anyone.”

Emery felt her eyes prick, “I'll be careful. I promise. Besides, I'm safe here. I already met the Deputy Sheriff of the town yesterday.”

Kian grunted in surprise, “The Deputy Sheriff? How did you meet him? Did you speed and get a ticket? Emery…”

She chuckled, “No Kian. I didn’t speed. He helped me unload my boxes out of my car. He was sweet.”

Kian paused for a minute and then slowly said, “He was sweet? What does that mean Emery?”

Emery sucked in a breath, “Nothing Kian. It doesn’t mean anything.”

Kian growled, “You're lying. What does it mean Emery?”

She rolled her eyes, “Kian, he was nice to me. He helped me move in my boxes. That’s all. And if it is more than that, you don’t need to worry about it.”

Kian stopped breathing and Emery held hers. “Emery, I don’t like the sound of anything you're saying. What in the hell is going on?”

“Nothing. But I am an adult Kian. I am old enough to date.”

Kian snarled, “You better not be saying what I think you are. Damn it Emery. You are gone for a few days and you meet a guy? Seriously?”

She sighed, “Kian, it's none of your business. At all. All I am gonna say is that I met someone, and yes, I am going on a date with him. Tonight. And you and Reid have no say in my life. It was nice to talk to you. I am safe and I haven’t had any issues.”

“Emery, I swear to all that is holy, that when Reid and I get there, he better not still be around.”

She laughed, “Oh, he will be. I promise you that. I think, no, that isn’t right. I know he is the guy I was meant to be with. Have a good day Kian.”

Then she hung up the phone. And she smiled. Kian called her again and again, but she didn’t answer and got ready for the day.
