Seeing Jake hold his knife to her neck was something Trace never wanted to relive. Not ever.

He was immediately taken back to that horrible night and he knew he had to stay focused.

He wasn’t focused enough though and Jake swiped him good.

Feeling the burn of the knife as it slashed across his skin was something he would never forget.

Again. He now had more scars to add to his others.

But he had found his sister. Finally.

Waking in the hospital and talking to her was a dream he never thought would come true.

He loved every moment of it and when he was released, she took care of him.

He got to know her more and was proud of everything she had accomplished.

She had lived a hard life like he had, but they had each other now. Along with Brek and his amazing parents.

And Trace had finally accepted their love. Knowing that nothing could replace his parents, but still were pretty much as wonderful as his were.

It was a humbling thing to have the love of a mother and father again. He hated that he'd fought it for so long.

But Grace and Brent had been patient and now had Sienna and Trace as their own.

Especially since Sienna was marrying Brek.

He was happy for them and knew that there was no one better for his sister than his best friend.

Trace let out a breath and shook his thoughts away. The town was quiet once again now that Jake was dead, and Brandon had been arrested and brought to the jail in another city.

He and Brek knew that they needed help in the station and while the old police chief was happy to fill in until they found a replacement, he didn’t want to wait for long.

Scott was tired and while he liked being back to help them, he wasn’t happy with what had happened and said he was content for now to stay on and help them out. He had only retired because he'd been shot in a routine traffic stop before Brek and Trace had started, and he was good and done.

Scott had been in the army for years and had PTSD and so after getting shot, he had put in his two weeks’ notice and he liked his retirement.

Trace and Brek had placed an ad in the paper a few cities over but were going to be very careful about who they chose this time around.

They didn’t want a repeat of what happened before with Jake.

Brek also wanted to be able to take Sienna on a honeymoon and couldn’t because he didn’t want to leave them short staffed.

Trace laughed and told his new brother that they could handle it for a few days and Brek had reluctantly taken Sienna to the ocean.

Since they lived in a small town in Colorado, she was happy to see the ocean for the first time.

And so far, Trace had been right. He and Scott had been able to handle the easy calls they had gotten, and Stacy was always on hand if they needed help.

She was a great dispatch officer and Trace was grateful.

She was like a little sister to him and Brek, and she treated them like big brothers.

Trace smiled and looked at the paperwork on his desk.

It was just small things and the rest of the case against Brandon, and then it was done for a few days.

Or so he hoped anyway. He needed to go out on patrol for a bit, and just needed Scott to take over the office while he did.
