Chapter 11

Emery

Trace had walked her into the house and checked every single inch of it to make sure nothing was hiding. Then he locked all the doors and led her to her room, where he gave her a chaste kiss and shut the door.

It made her pout, knowing he was just down the hall and she wasn’t in his arms.

She went to her bathroom and took a quick shower and changed into pajamas.

Then she tried her best to sleep, and thank heavens she did, otherwise she was going to go out to that living room and do something.

When she woke the next morning, she made her way out into the living room and Trace had left her a note on the folded-up blankets there.

Sunshine,

I had to go to my house to shower and get my uniform. I will see you at the station later for your first shift and I can’t wait to kiss you and hold you again tonight. I love you sunny girl. Thank you for giving me the best gift I have ever received in my entire life last night. See you soon.

Trace

She sighed with happiness, putting the blanket and pillow back on her bed.

She had wanted him to sleep surrounded in her scent. And she loved it.

She knocked on Grandma Viv’s door and heard her shuffling around inside her room and when Grandma opened the door, she smiled.

“How is my Emmy girl today? Did you sleep alright last night? Kian and Reid told me a little of what is going on in your life.”

She led Emery over to her bed and they sat on the edge. Emery nodded, “I had hoped they wouldn’t drag you into this, but it’s inevitable I guess.”

Grandma pulled her in for a hug, “My sweet girl. I want to be pulled into things like this. If I can help keep you safe, of course I want to know all I can. I did know that your sexy Deputy slept on our couch last night.”

Emery gave a small laugh, “He sure did. But as soon as Kian and Reid get here, he won’t have to do that.”

Grandma bumped her shoulder against Emery’s, “Sweet girl, he will probably keep you safe at his house. He didn’t want to leave me unprotected. He is sweet like that. It’s why I like him. Anyway, how are you holding up with it? I don’t like knowing you have a man who thinks to hurt you.”

Emery’s shoulders slumped, “Trace and I got in a fight about it yesterday. He doesn’t think I am taking it seriously, when it couldn’t be further from the truth. I am so scared Gran. Terrified that Lance will hurt me. For nothing I did to him. I have barely even lived, and he thinks that he has a claim to me somehow. I don’t like it. I never have. And now that I found Trace? I like it even less now. I just want him found and for me to be left alone.”

Gran hugged her close, “Knowing your brothers and your Deputy, they will do everything in their power to keep you safe, and to find the man. I just know it.”

Emery hugged her Grandma back, “I know they will. I have faith in them all. I have to get ready for work. Are you sure you will be okay by yourself?”

Grandma pulled back and waved her hand, “I'll be fine. I'll make sure the house is locked up tight and I can work on the project I started working on.”

Emery laughed, “Okay. Just keep everything locked and I’m sure Trace will come by every once in a while, to check on you.”

Grandma waved her away, “Go get ready so you can see your man.”

Emery smiled and walked out of Gran’s room so she could get dressed.

When she made it to the station, she took a deep breath and walked in the doors.

Stacy looked up and smiled, “Hi Emery. I'm so glad to see you.”

Emery smiled, “Hi Stacy! I’m so excited to start work today!”

Stacy had her walk around the desk, “Fill out this paperwork and we'll get you all set. I'll show you how to work the phones and how to radio the men.”
