Chapter 16

Sienna

Sitting with Brek’s parents was wonderful. She hadn’t felt this loved or accepted since she was a child.

She told Brek’s parents about herself and what happened to Brek and Trace and that Trace was her brother.

Grace had gasped so loud, and then hugged her again. “Trace has always been so reserved and even though we tried, he never let his guard down. But knowing that you are his sister, that he found you after all this time, I think that will change.”

Sienna smiled, “I can’t tell you how happy and relieved to know that he is alive. I thought I was alone in this world. But I always thought deep down that he was out there. I had a tiny kernel of hope that I always held close to my heart, knowing they didn’t find his body. So I kept believing that one day he would show up out of the blue and we would have gone through life together. I never told anyone about my thoughts. I always wished I would see him again, even knowing it was crazy. But I am not crazy. And I am not alone. Not anymore. I found Brek and now Trace.”

Grace grabbed her hand, “And us my dear. Don’t forget about us.”

Sienna smiled, “Never.”

A doctor came in the room, “Is there a next of kin for Trace Barker?”

Sienna stood with Brek’s parents. “That’s me.”

The three of them walked over to where the doctor stood, and he gave Sienna a soft smile.

“Trace sailed through surgery. He had to have over 50 stitches in his abdomen, and thankfully none of his internal organs were punctured. He will be out of work for a while, and need some help, but he is going to be just fine.”

Sienna sagged against Brent, “Oh thank heavens. Can I see him?”

The doctor nodded, “Just one at a time for now.”

When the doctor turned to leave, Brent said, “What about my son? Is he all right?”

The doctor nodded, “What is his name?”

“Brek McGuire.”

The doctor smiled a bit, “He is still in surgery. The knife did some damage to his internal organs when it went in. I am afraid to say, and we are trying to do what we can. So far, he is holding up well.”

Sienna had to take a few deep breaths and Brent said, “All right, thank you.”

Sienna followed the doctor after he told Brek’s parents the room number Trace was in, and she walked into her brother’s room.

She walked to his bedside and grabbed the hand that was resting on top of the covers.

Trace was shirtless and had a large bandage around his abdomen.

And Sienna could see scars on his shoulder and chest. Ones he must have gotten when he was stabbed by the man who killed their parents.

She had to bite her lip to keep from crying and sat down softly on his bed beside his leg. She kissed his hand and held it to her tightly.

She had never in a million years thought she would find Trace again. Had buried him years ago. And even though she held out hope for a long time that he was alive, because there was no body to confirm his death, it seemed impossible, and yet? Here he was.

They had similarities, but not much. He favored their father, where Sienna favored their mother in looks.

But he looked like the boy she missed. He was almost 2 years older than her, but they had always been close as kids.

She had missed Trace, something fierce growing up and longed to talk to him one more time. To hear him laugh and have him tell her his silly jokes.

And now she might get that chance. Brushing his hair off his forehead, Sienna kissed him softly there.

“I can’t believe you are alive Trace. I finally have my brother back. I hope you wake up soon. I have missed you so much.”
