Chapter 12
Jake
Jake hadn’t slept in days. He was too worried. Too angry.
He had found his perfect mark, but then Brek had to come sniffing around and had staked his claim on the girl.
It made Jake see red knowing that Sienna was in her house, with Brek.
He had heard the noises they made after Brek went back to see her.
He knew what they were up to and damn it, he hated Brek at this moment. Even more than normal.
He knew Brek’s type. Golden boy of the town, a different woman every week and the rich parents who did everything for him.
Jake hated Brek from the minute he met the man. Hated Trace too. They were both the same in his eyes and now that Brek had ruined his chance of getting to Sienna without anyone wanting to know more about the recluse woman, it made Jake see red.
He wanted her blood. It called to him and by damn it, he would have it.
It’s why he made Brandon start doing more. Polly never left her house, so he made Brandon make lots of noise at the front of the house, while he broke in the back.
He hit Polly on the back of the head, and let Brandon do his job while he waited for Polly to come to.
Except she hadn’t taken long and saw him before he could leave.
She called the cops, still out of it enough that she wasn’t quite certain if it was him and when he had ‘come’ to help with the break in, she freaked out.
He told her in no uncertain terms that he would kill her if she breathed a word and Jake then went to call Brek.
He could handle everything himself, but he wanted to ruin Brek’s night with Sienna.
He needed her alone and he would do everything in his power to get to her again.
Right after he called Brek, Trace had come to take over. Jake hadn’t been allowed to see Polly and Trace had sent him back to the station to fill out paperwork.
Except he didn't go to the station. He went to Sienna’s house. And sure, enough Brek was there.
He was pissed.
But he made a plan and was going to stick to it.
He texted Brandon and told her that they had one more house to break into. And then he would pay Brandon for his trouble.
Except in the middle of them ripping the house to shreds, the woman came home.
Jake took one of her kitchen knives and stabbed her. She dropped to her knees and he left out the back door. Not wanting to be caught.
He went back home and washed the blood off his shoes and shirt.
This would throw them off again. He went to the drawer that held the names of his victims.
He had already added Sienna on his list. And he rubbed her name with his thumb.
Tonight, was the night. He was going to kill her. And that was that.
He packed everything he needed into his car and got dressed in the clothes that he would later burn.
He waited until it was dark and then he drove to the edge of town, parking in the trees and hiding it the best he could.
Then he walked down the path he knew well. Sneaking up to her house, he expected to see the lights on and her going about her day.
Except the house was dark. He walked around, peeking in the windows as he went and when he saw no movement, he cursed.
She never went anywhere and the one night he wanted her home, she wasn’t.
Kicking some flowers, he walked back to his car and hit the steering wheel in anger.
He had to face another day in this godforsaken town.
He wanted her blood, and he wanted it now. He would wait until she came back, and then she would die.
