Brek laughed out loud, then sent her another text.
Brek: You better get used to it. I am going to say a lot more than that. I didn’t know I had such a dirty mind, nor that I would love to talk dirty to you. Guess you bring it out in me.
Sienna: Still blushing. Goodness. You are incorrigible.
Brek: And you love it.
Sienna: I do.
Brek grinned, knowing that she was one step closer to telling him she loved him.
He had told her last night before she fell asleep. He knew she might have heard him.
Pulling on his uniform, Brek whistled as he dressed. He was in a wonderful mood.
Nothing could bring it down. He was flying high. Or so he thought.
When he pulled into the station, Jake was waiting for him.
“Good morning Jake. Is there something I can help you with?”
Jake had his hands clenched into fists, “There isn’t anything you can do for me. Just wanted to let you know that I got Polly’s report filed.”
Brek raised his eyebrow, Jake didn’t need to come out here to tell him that. “Alright. Thank you, Jake.”
Jake pushed past him and knocked his shoulder into Brek’s.
Brek spun, “Whoa. What the fuck man?”
Jake snarled up at him, “You always have to take everything don’t you? Have to be the golden boy. The town favorite. Can’t just leave something alone. Had to touch it.”
Brek furrowed his eyebrows together, “What are you talking about? I’m not the town’s golden boy nor have I ever wanted to be. No matter what you think of me. I have no idea what I did to you to piss you off like this. Hell, I just saw you last night at Polly’s and you didn’t act like this. What in the hell is wrong with you?”
Jake just shook his head, “You don’t understand anything. You probably never will.”
Then he turned and walked away before Brek could say another word.
Brek’s jaw clenched. He thought that Jake was his friend. While they weren’t close by any means, he didn’t think Jake hated him.
But it's obvious he was wrong. Things were going to be awkward around here.
Jake was so new to their town that Brek still didn’t know what to think of the man. He kept to himself and didn’t talk much.
That was fine by Brek, but Jake didn’t need to get hostile. Brek walked into the station and saw Trace standing by his office.
He had two mugs of coffee in his hands and when he saw Brek he nodded.
“I didn’t know if you had a cup already.”
Brek shook his head and let Trace lead the way into his office.
He shut the door and Trace handed him the cup of coffee.
“Thanks. I needed this. Especially after what happened with Jake.”
Trace looked up, “What do you mean what happened with Jake?”
Brek told Trace everything that had happened out front.
