I can feel my soul settle just a little as I continue to breathe in the salty air of home. A little more settled, I start the bike and make my way onto the coastal road, opening the throttle and giving the bike free rein.
Losing myself in the beauty of the view and the joy of just riding, nowhere to be, nothing required of me, I allow my mind to empty. Out on the open road, it’s easy to lose track of time. The sun is barely kissing the horizon when I finally enter the city limits again, and I stop once again beside the beach to enjoy the show Mother Nature puts on.
Calmer, and feeling more myself than I have in a while, I point the bike toward my condo. Finally, I should be able to getsome decent sleep. Once I’m up and feeling more refreshed, I think I’ll head for the club. See what’s going on there, since the others will be busy getting back to normal life with their women.
Determined not to think about that and forfeit my hard-won peace, I nip that thought in the bud.
Closing the front door behind me, I put my phone into Do Not Disturb so no one but the commander or Knight can reach me, then make a beeline for the bedroom. Stripping at the foot of the bed, I just leave my clothes in a heap as I crawl onto the mattress and give into the drag of sleep that is ready to finally pull me under.
For the first time in a long time, I manage a good number of hours of dreamless sleep. It’s rare to go an entire night without dreaming, and they’re never happy ones. So I’m happy when I wake up refreshed, no lingering hangover from a miserable dream.
I check my phone and find nothing of importance but take it out of Do Not Disturb mode since I’m up anyway. Suddenly eager to get to the club, for no apparent reason, I rush through the shower and, instead of taking time to make breakfast, decide to treat myself to something at the club’s restaurant.
I spot Samuel almost as soon as I walk through the doors. The club is fairly quiet, as it always is during the day. He hails me over when he sees me.
“Hey there. How’s it going? I hope your trip was successful.”
I appreciate Sam. He never asks questions, just always expresses his hope that that last mission was successful – his way of asking whether we managed to do what needed to be done and if we all made it home safely.
“Hey. Good, thanks. Yeah, mission accomplished and all safe and accounted for,” I reply, shaking the hand he holds out to me. “How’s things been here?”
“Good. Can’t complain. Well, I could, but I won’t. You know. The new girl’s working out well, club’s running smoothly, and Myra – well, Myra’s just Myra.” His shrug says a million things without him uttering a word.
“I hear you, but you know it’s going to come down to you, right? She’s never going to make the first move. She’s just not wired that way, and then add to the mix how her ex treated her, and it’s just never going to happen.”
“Yeah, I know it. Doesn’t make it any easier for me. Both of us have been burned. I just don’t know if I have it in me to take another chance. You know?” Knowing the feeling only too well, I simply nod. “What brings you by so early?” he asks, changing the topic.
“Breakfast. And company.” My answer is brief, but he gets exactly what I’m saying. “You eaten already?”
“It’s nearly lunchtime, so yeah I’ve had breakfast.” Sam’s laugh brings a smile to my face. It’s been scarce recently.
“True enough, but since I’ve only recently woken up, it’s breakfast time for me. Since I’m behind a meal, can I buy you lunch instead?”
“Sure, why not? You know I like it when you spend money in my club.” I can’t help but laugh at the man’s good humor.
“Come on then. Let’s go.”
Once seated, Cassandra comes over to take our order. She’s been with Sam from the beginning and is a real asset to his club. “Master Samuel.” She smiles at him, then turns to me. “Welcome back, Master Treven. It’s lovely to see you, as always. What may I get for you, Sirs?”
Sam indicates for me to go ahead, so I place my order. Once Cas has taken both, she leaves, promising to be back with our drinks shortly. We pass the time while we wait with small talk, and in no time as promised she’s back with our steaming cups of coffee. The mouthwatering aroma alone has my mood lifting.
“There you go. I’ll be back soon with your meals.”
“Thanks.” Sam smiles as Cassandra places our drinks on the table. “Oh Cas, is LJ on shift today or tonight? I haven’t seen her around.”
“She’s on day, Sir, taking orders out on the floor today – she’s around here somewhere.”
“Great. Thanks.” With a smile of her own, Cas leaves us to it.
“So have you given anymore thought to my request? I know you’ve been busy, being out of town and all, but I suspect that the woman in question might well chicken out if left to consider her decision for too much longer.”
With perfect timing, as always, Cassandra approaches our table, giving us time to cease the conversation should we so wish before, at a nod from Sam, coming forward to place the plates on the table.
“Thanks Cas,” Sam and I say at almost the same time.
“I’ll be by to check on you in a bit, just yell if you need anything before then. Enjoy, Sirs.”
Waiting for her to be out of earshot, I ask the question that’s uppermost in my mind. “So what’s your lady’s motivation for wanting to try bondage, other than what she sees around her piquing her curiosity?”
