Sebastian felt her begin to tighten around him. Shortening his strokes, he drove into her, igniting a fire deep within. A tingle started at the base of his spine, warning of his impending release. Wrapped up in her tight heat, he felt her begin to come undone for him. And he knew he wouldn’t be far behind.

Serena

Excitement mounting,Serena threw her head back and let out a low moan. Sebastian was all she could see, all she could feel, all she could hear. She felt completely surrounded by him. The friction of his rock-hard length was undoing her in the most delicious way. She wasn’t going to last much longer. She could already feel her body start to tighten, feeling as if her skin was too tight.

The orgasm built, and her breath quickened. She wasn’t sure she would survive this.

“Oh god, Sebastian,” she panted. “I ... It’s too much ... I ... It ... I can’t. Oooooh, god.”

He tightened his grip on her hips, clenched his teeth, murmuring, “Let it go,piccola. I’ve got you. Let me see you come apart for me.”

Looking up into his face, etched in beautiful, raw passion, Serena surrendered to it, crying out with her release. Her surrender pushed Sebastian into his own.

Burying his face in her neck with an almost silent groan, Sebastian followed Serena into the steep spiral of surrender. She felt the strong pulses as he came with her. Spent but completely sated, she flopped down onto his chest. Neither could quite muster the energy to move.

They lay like that for long moments as Sebastian ran a soothing hand up and down Serena’s spine before rolling her over onto the bed. As he turned to his back on his side of the bed, his cell phone rang. She watched as he bit back a curse. A look of what appeared to be regret washed over him, he told her, “And so the outside world intrudes.”

Serena watched the grace with which Sebastian moved as he retrieved his phone from the nightstand and exited the bed. He moved over to stand by the window, murmuring into his phone in rapid fire Italian, and as she noticed his frame tighten with tension, she wondered what the phone call was about. The only word she understood from his conversation wasMama, but since it made her feel uncomfortable to witness him engaged in what appeared to be a very personal call, she decided to get dressed, affording him some privacy.

His call at an end, Serena saw Sebastian run a hand over the back of his neck as he hung his head. It seemed as if the weight of the world dragged on him.

She’d finished dressing and was quietly sitting in a chair by the window waiting for him to be done with his call, sensing that playtime was over. She didn’t know what the call had been about, but she’d seen a change come over him. Gone was the playfulness of earlier, and in its place was a man carrying a heavy burden.

Serena felt awkward and out of place. She didn’t know how to act around him now. They didn’t know each other very well yet had just shared one of the most intimate things a man and woman could.

She watched from her vantage point as Sebastian got dressed, his movements quick and economical. When he was done, he simply stood there, as if still lost in a world of pain. After a long moment, he turned to her, looking at her without saying anything, though the look on his face was as if he had something he wanted to say. He stood like that for what seemed like an eternity before eventually speaking.

Sebastian

A feelingof vulnerability washed over him as he looked over at this beautiful woman who had just rocked his world to its very foundation. No woman had ever made him feel the way she had just minutes before.

It was an uncomfortable feeling. One he was not well acquainted with. He was the love-’em-and-leave-’em sort, never looking for an emotional connection. His life was too busy and his heart too unavailable.

But, without so much as a word, Serena was the kind of woman who demanded more. He realised, in hindsight, she was not a quick tumble kind of woman. She deserved more than that.

She was the kind you worshipped, revered, took care of.

What was it about her that called to something deep within him? Yes, she was beautiful, but he had dated beautiful women before. There was just so much more to her than a pretty face. Then it struck him. She was the first woman he’d been with who made him feel like a person rather than a meal ticket. She sawhim, not his money or what he could do for her.

Sebastian gave himself a mental shake. His thoughts had turned melancholy, and he blamed the phone call. It had shaken him to the core. He heaved a sigh. This was definitely not how he’d imagined their delightful afternoon tryst would come to an end.

Turning, his gaze roamed the room until he found her sitting quietly in a chair beside the window. His heart clenched as he took in her defensive posture. She was clearly expecting to be dismissed. The phone call had ruined a perfect afternoon.

Another sigh escaped as he walked over to Serena and held out his hand to help her from the chair.

“I’ll have Ari drive you.”

He wasn’t sure, but he fancied he’d seen a flash of hurt in her beautiful eyes, but she simply nodded. Allowing him to help her up from the chair, she stood before him. When she looked up at him without a hint of any emotion showing, he wondered if he might have just imagined it.

Opening the bedroom door, he led her back down the hall and across the living room to the front door. Ari appeared as they reached the opening.

“Please drive Ms Callum to wherever she’d like to go.”

Serena turned to Sebastian and said, “Thank you for a lovely lunch, Sebastian. I’ll be in touch soon.”
