“I really do, Lee. He’s confident and comfortable in his own skin. That’s so refreshing and such a turn on.”

Jazz appeared at the office door. “Sorry to interrupt the girl time, but the hottie fire investigator is out front asking for you. And oh my god, he’s got another hot guy with him.”

“I’ll be right there. Thanks, Jazz.”

“Oh no, ma’am. It is I who should be thanking you for all this amazing eye-candy you appear to be attracting into the store these days.”

Tossing an eraser at Jazz, Kitty laughed at the younger woman.

“If you don’t mind letting me out, I’ll zip out the back here. I need to get going anyway. It’s time to head back to the office.” Lee stood.

“Sure thing, babes. Thanks for the visit. I’ll chat to you later.”

How could she?All we ever wanted was for her to be happy, to love us. We’ve done everything for her, and this is how she repays us! Tears of anger gathered in their eyes. Rocking back and forth, they continued to express their anger, whispering to themselves. For hours they simply rocked, mumbling and plotting. She needed to be punished. What would hurt her? Hurt her like she’d hurt them? She must be made to feel their pain. And as the thought came to them, their eyes shone with malicious joy. Yes! They knew exactly what needed to be done.

Chapter Seven

Candlelight softened the room. Her iPod played softly in the background. The warm water rippled over her as she moved her foot back and forth. It had been a busy day. Tired and feeling the strain of having spent the day bent over, Kitty had decided a warm, scented bath was just the thing to make her feel better.

Relaxing against the back of the bath, her thoughts turned again to Gray. Thoughts of him had been on her mind since he’d popped in. He’d looked tired, but more than that, he’d looked down. Everything in her had wanted to offer him comfort. But she hadn’t wanted to make him uncomfortable in front of his friend.

The thought not even cold yet, her cell phone rang, and she saw his number on the screen. Smiling, she answered, “Hi Gray.”

“Hi yourself.” She could hear a smile in his voice. “Are you busy this evening?”

“Not particularly. I don’t have any plans. I figured a quiet night in was the ticket. You?”

“Well, that depends.”

“On what?” she asked, biting her lip.

“On you,” he replied.

“Oh. How so? What did you have in mind?” His soft laugh made everything girly in her sit up and take notice.

“You up for company? I haven’t eaten yet, and since I don’t want to eat alone, thought maybe I could pick up some take-out for us... and head over to your place for that quiet evening in. I’d really like to see you again. You haven’t eaten yet, have you?”

That, just that, made Kitty feel her heart squeeze. She couldn’t remember when last a man had made her feel like that. If ever. And she liked it. She liked it a lot.

“No, I haven’t eaten. I decided a long soak in the bath with a glass of wine was the first order of business this evening. But I could definitely eat now.”

“Excellent. Do you eat sushi?”

“Hmm, yes. I love sushi.”

“I’ll grab some and head on over then, if that’s okay with you?”

“That’d be great.”

“Anything in particular you like? Anything I need to stay away from?”

“Other than eel and tuna, I’m game for pretty much anything else.”

“Gotcha, consider it done. See you shortly.”

“I’ll see you in a bit then.”
