Not hearing a sound coming from anywhere in the house, he sighed. Damn, he needed the bathroom desperately. As he was trying to get to his feet, Kitty came into the room.
“What are you doing?”
Gray’s head jerked back before swinging toward her.
“Good god, woman! Give a guy a bit of warning.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to startle you. The question, however, still remains. What are you doing?”
“What does it look like I’m doing?”
“Fine, smartass. Where are you going?”
“I gotta go.”
“Okay, fair enough. But why didn’t you call for me?”
“Because I’m used to doing for myself, Kitty. It’s an adjustment having to rely on other people for help.” Exasperation was clear in his voice.
Sighing, Kitty replied, “I can imagine it would be. Sorry, I didn’t mean to snap.”
“I’m sorry too. I guess this is going to take more adjusting than I thought.”
“Come on then. Let’s get you up so you can do what you need to do.”
Getting Gray to his feet using the method they’d shown her in the hospital proved to be easier than either of them had anticipated. Once up, Kitty handed him his crutches. He hobbled off as fast as was safe.
When he got back from the bathroom, Kitty had disappeared again. He hadn’t thought his house was that big. But at this rate, he was going to have to put a tracking device on the confounded woman.
“Kitty?”
“I’m in the kitchen. Trying to figure out what to make for dinner.”
Laughing, he replied, “Yeah, good luck with that. Supplies were running low even before I ended up in the hospital.”
“I suppose you could say that. Personally, I thought pretty sad and empty were good words to describe the state of your cupboards and fridge.”
With another snort of laughter, he rested against the doorframe. Just stood there, taking in the sight of Kitty in his kitchen. With a pang in the region of his heart, he realised how right it felt. That in that moment, he was right where he was meant to be.Theywere right where they were meant to be.
The sight of Kitty bending over to check the contents of a cupboard completely derailed any further thought as all blood rushed south. That perfectly plump, rounded ass had him itching to get his hands on it.
Clearing his throat, Gray tightened his grip on the handles of his crutches.
“Er, Kitty...”
“Hmm?”
“Could you maybe not do that right now?”
Frowning, she looked over at him. “Not do what?”
“Not bend over like that right now.”
“I’m sorry. Am I missing someth–” He saw her gaze drop. “Oh.”
“Yeah. Oh. And there’s not much I can do about it. So, I’d be very grateful if you could, you know, just not. Please?”
He hadn’t meant for it to come out like he was begging. But at this point, if it meant she’d quit waving her fine ass in his face, he’d beg.
