“If it were just me, I wouldn’t care what he thinks. The guy’s always hated me, probably always will. But I know that you care about what he thinks. And because you care, I care.”
Kinley visibly melts. “Thank you for doing that. I know it couldn’t have been easy.”
I tuck a strand of hair behind her ear where it came loose from her low ponytail. “It wasn’t, but it was worth it. I want you, Kin. And if he’s part of the package, well, I can take a few jabs from him every now and then.”
“I won’t let him bully you. I promise.”
I chuckle, leaning over Caleb to kiss her on the forehead and cup her cheeks in my hands. “You have nothing to worry about. I’m in this, one hundred percent.”
“Me too.”
I cock my head to the side, asking the unspoken question:Are you sure?
“I’m ready,” she says breathlessly, her gaze locked on my lips.
I comb my fingers through her hair, her ponytail falling out in a smooth cascade. Closing the space between us, I brush my lips against her cheek and her jawline, enjoying how her breathing stutters right before I press my mouth against her plush, eager lips. She opens up to me immediately, tasting sweet like the honey she puts in her chamomile tea.
When our tongues touch, we both groan, deepening the kiss with every stroke and caress. My dick twitches in my jeans when she drags her fingernails against the back of my neck, pulling me as close to her as she can without crushing the baby between us.
Speaking of Caleb and based on the squirming, our tiny third wheel is now wide awake. We part with a laugh, returning our attention to the man of the hour—a very stinky man of the hour.
Kinley giggles. “Wow, he needs a change.”
“Talk about a mood killer.”
“This is my life. Are you sure you’re ready for this?”
“More than ready. I’ve got him,” I say, dropping a kiss onto her forehead and maneuvering his tiny body into my arms. “I’ll change his diaper, and then we’re going to get right back to that kiss. Stay right here. Donotmove.”
Kinley bursts into laughter. God, I could live off of her smile and nothing else. “Yes, sir. Hurry.”
Caleb blinks up at me, and I grin down at him and say, “You heard the lady. Let’s do this.”
In his nursery, I get to work stripping Caleb down to see what I’m dealing with, andhoo-ee, it’sa lot.
“Dang, that’s just impressive,” I murmur under my breath.
If you’d have asked me six months ago what I thought of domestic life, I probably would have run in the opposite direction. Now, there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. Stinky diapers and all.
I guess I’ve just experienced the sweeter side of life now. My days are so much fuller and more meaningful with these two in it.
After I get the little man cleaned up, which included an impromptu bath, he’s already half-asleep again. I lay him down in his crib and tiptoe out of the room, careful not to wake him.
This feels like it could be a big moment for Kinley and me. Aside from some early fooling around when she was pregnant, we’ve never pulled off the hat trick, so to speak.
I find Kinley in her bedroom. The lights are off, and she’s sitting on the edge of the mattress. I join her.
“He fell back asleep.”
She gives me a grateful look. “Did I hear the water running?”
I nod. “He needed a bath. And a new outfit, but he’s clean as a whistle now.”
Her eyebrows rise. “You gave him a bath?”
“Of course. I couldn’t leave our little man hanging.” I mean, he had shit all the way up his back.
Kinley touches my jaw, rubbing her palm over the stubble on my cheek. “You are amazing.”
