She wanted me, too. Wanted mefirst, and that means something to me.

Dominic had seemed a bit nervous about everything at first, just like me. Sebastian was the one that knew exactly what he was doing. Man-whore.

There is something about the way he ordered her around, though, the way she listened.

I wonder if I could do that. I wonder if she’d listen the same way to me.

The Sugar Shack is mostly empty, and I pick a booth in the back corner, sliding into the seat.

Dominic shows up barely five minutes later. He must live close to downtown.

His brown eyes are dark, and he wears a black hoodie and jeans, pulling the hood back from his face as he sits acrossfrom me.

I raise an eyebrow. “What’s with the spy gear? You planning a heist later?”

He snorts. “Not exactly.”

The waitress comes over. “Hi, what can I get you?”

“Coffee,” Dominic tells the waitress. “And a burger, medium rare. Fries are fine.”

She nods, having already gotten my very similar order.

When she leaves, I turn back to Dominic. “You asked me here to talk to me. So, talk.”

“Look, this isn’t about Olivia.”

My eyes widen. “It’s not?”

“Not explicitly.” He takes a long breath. “This isn’t about last night, is what I’m trying to say.”

My shoulders relax. “Okay. Then what is this about?”

“The merger.”

Shock floods through me.

Wait. What does he know about the merger?

Panic clogs my throat.

“What about the merger?” My voice sounds strained even to my own ears.

He huffs out a breath, looking at me with narrowed eyes. “Is it on the level?”

I frown. “What are you talking about?”

There’s nothing nefarious or secretive about this merger, at least that I know about. And I know everything about it.

Don’t I?

The waitress comes and puts our plates on the table.

He pops a fry into his mouth. “It just seems fishy to me. Titan has never been interested in mergers unless it was with companies that are already going under. I’ve been with Titan for long enough now that I know it doesn’t like to make any compromises.”

He clearly doesn’t know about our fiduciary troubles, so that’s something. But I don’t want him sniffing around.

“It’s all on the level. What’s it to you, anyway? You work for Titan, not Carter Holdings. It’s not your business.”
