I still can’t look at them without panting in heat, so we spend alotof time in the bedroom.
Carter Holdings is holding up fine, thanks to Sebastian’s undercover efforts. I love him all the more for it.
I need to hire a new assistant, but I met a lovely young lady named Gretchen that might take the spot. Maybe we can even be friends.
When I’m ready.
I visit Marie in prison from time to time. I pressed charges, and she received a two-year sentence. Roland, on the other hand? Twenty-five years for assault with a deadly weapon. I don’t think I’ll be visiting him.
It’s been four months, and I’mlateand miserable.
“I’m almost at forty-two weeks, can’t they just take her?”
“You’re the one who wanted a natural birth,” Damien points out, and I glare at him.
“You’ve been snappy all week.” Dominic pets my hair.
I’m lying on them on the couch, and we’re watching the reality television they all claim to hate.
Sebastian, engrossed in the show, pipes up, “Yeah, you’ve been downright mean. What’s going on?”
Sebastian takes his ankle in my hand possessively, and it calms me down a little.
“Just frustrated, I guess. I want this little girl out of me.”
“Are we settled on Chloe Anna?” Damien asks.
“I thought we were going for Jacqueline Leah,” Dominic argues.
“I still think Victoria is better. We could call her Tory,” Sebastian puts in his two cents.
“I don’tcarewhat her name is, I just want her out of here,” I grumble, and as if she heard me, she kicks me hard, and then a sharp pain rushes through me. “Ow.”
“Ow? What’s ow?” Dominic is already struggling to get up from the middle with my butt in his lap.
I slowly stand up, holding the bottom of my stomach as a wave of pain wraps around my ribs.
“It hurts…”
As if on cue, water gushes from me, wetting my thighs and splashing on the floor.
“That’s your water breaking…” Sebastian stares at me with a panicked look.
“Get me to a hospital!” I yell, and suddenly all of them are on their feet, rushing around.
Damien gets my overnight bag, and Sebastian scoops me up.
Dominic follows with the keys, the only one remembering, and we pile into two separate cars, me riding with Sebastian in the minivan Damien bought me.
We arrive at the hospital in a rush, and Sebastian and I get there first.
He rushes me inside and hands me off to a tech.
They take me to the back, and I don’t see any of them for a while.
All the world is made of pain. There’s nothing else, and I scream for drugs or an epidural as they take me back.
“I’m so sorry, Ms. Carter, it’s too late. The baby is crowning.”
