She pouts a little, pinching my cheek. “Yes. I like you, Damien.”

“I, uh, I like you too.” My cheeks feel like they’re on fire, and she laughs, cups my face with one hand to kiss me softly.

“You’re cute. Like a little boy sometimes, confessing a crush.”

“Oh, it's more than a crush.”

She gets up on one elbow. “Oh? Do tell.”

“I’m not telling you shit. I’m pleading the fifth.”

“This isn’t court.” She laughs, sitting up cross-legged and nude.

It’s distracting, but I manage to keep my eyes on her face.

She frowns a little. “Do you think Dom is okay?”

I frown back. “Are you thinking about Dominic right now?”

She flushes deeper. “No, it’s not like that. I just mean... he’s seemed a bit off.”

“He’s always a bit off.”

Dominic is a bit unhinged.

She barks out a laugh. “Not like that. Just... like he’s going through something.”

“We're all going through something, aren’t we?” I feel a little defensive.

This is hard on all of us, not just Dominic.

Her face softens. “I’m sorry. I just... I don’t have anyone else to talk to, except for Roland and Marie, and even they don’t get this.”

“It’s complicated.” I pet her hair back from her face.

“It’ssocomplicated. But I’m glad you’re a part of it.”

“You are?”

“Of course, I am.” She pouts again, and I kiss her bottom lip.

She smiles, and my chest aches.

“I’m glad to hear it. Sometimes I feel...”

She climbs on top of me, straddling my lap and cupping my face to make me look at her.

“You can tell me anything.”

I huff. “I feel a little out of place. You have history with Dominic and Sebastian...”

“I have history with you, too.”

“It’s not the same.”

“It’s better,” she insists, and I frown at her.

“How so?”
