“You can always walk away.”

“Like you don’t have a hold on me.”

“Do I?”

“You know you do, sweetheart.” He puts an arm around my waist, pulling me flush against him. “So, what are we going to do about it?”

I move away from him even as he protests. “I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”

I feel almost giddy. I wish this could last forever, this push and pull.

Chapter Thirty-One

DAMIEN

LeavingOlivia’s office when she’s so flirty and affectionate is like pulling teeth, but it has to be done. I’m still chasing down the leak, and I’m beginning to think Ms. Rosalind Miles has nothing at all to do with it.

I still go by her office, and she isn’t in for the day, so I head to the small office of who I really need to be talking to—Roland.

I don’t suspect he’s the leak, but his code is the one that keeps getting stolen, so we need to have a conversation.

I knock on his closed office door, and he calls for me to come in.

He looks startled when I walk in the door, closing it behind me.

“Damien? Is something wrong with Olivia?”

I shake my head, sitting across from his desk. “Nothing like that. She’s fine. Baby’s fine.”

He lets out a relieved sigh. “Then what can I do for you?”

“Your keycard.”

Roland winces. “It’s bad that I lost it, huh?”

“Very bad.” I lean forward, putting my forearms on mythighs. “It seems whoever is leaking information is using your key code. Every time. You can see how that makes me a bit suspicious, right?”

“I had nothing to do with the leak,” he says quickly, looking at me seriously.

There’s nothing about his face that makes me not trust him. He’s a little pale, but anyone would be, given the circumstances.

But even if he’s notconsciouslypart of this...

“I need you to sign up for a new key card. Make the other one obsolete.”

He nods slowly. “Yeah, of course. First, I just have to?—”

“Get it done today, Roland.”

His throat works but he nods again. “All right. I will.”

I stand up.

“I’m not... in any kind of trouble, am I?”

“Is there any reason for you to be?” I ask coolly, and Roland looks up at me blankly only for a moment.

“No, of course not.”
