“When we were together, she kept talking about needing to do something, I know what that thing is, and so do you and thatthingis currently sitting in your bedroom.”

His eyes shift when I refer to Mandy as a thing, but right now I couldn’t give a fuck if it makes him angry.

Feeling a vibration next to me, I release a sigh of relief when I see it’s my phone turning on.

Without any hesitation I click the icon for the tracker planted on the car except it doesn’t tell me what it normally does. Instead of telling me her current location, it tells me her location can not be found.

“No, no, no, no, no, this can NOT be happening.” I shout standing from my bed.

Ant stiffens, his eyes narrowing as I throw the phone on the bed to pace around. He picks it up, trying to see what is happening. I notice the moment he does as his face pales when my phone dings.

Ant opens it without hesitation but the way his face hardens tells me everything I need to know, its bad.

“What is it?” I demand, reaching forward for the phone.

He takes a step back, holding it out of my reach. My chest tightens from his movement, dread climbing its way through my body. Nausea swims its way round my stomach at the thought of not knowing.

“Ant,” I growl, my voice shaking as I try to stay in control. “If you know what’s good for you, you will give me that damn phone. Now.”

For a moment he hesitates, no doubt fighting himself inside. I take another step forward except this time his trembling hand reaches out towards me. I snatch it from him and turn around tolook at it in private. The second I turn the screen towards me I feel my whole world shatter around me.

The image in front of me burns into my mind and before I even realise, the phone is slipping from my grip.

It clatters to the floor as my legs give out underneath me and I crash in to the floor as a scream tears its way out of my throat.

Eva.

There in the photo next to me, her body lays limp and covered in blood.

CHAPTER 27

EVA

I followthe directions that I jotted down before leaving the house, even though her location is currently unknown. I’m hoping there will be some sort of clue that will guide me in the right direction, either that or some CCTV locations I can access. I turn intoTurners Street, the closest location to our home. I scan my surroundings seeing the street is lined with shops on either side, from bakeries to electronics. My spirits lift when I realise how many CCTV cameras must cover this area. If I can track the same car passing through these spots, at the same time that was pinged on the map, I might just have a chance to narrow down my search.

I pull up at a curb and turn the engine off before quickly slipping out of the car.

My eyes dart, searching for the nearest camera.

“Bingo.” I whisper to myself. Right there, at the front of a convenience shop sits a camera facing the road.

Taking a deep breath, I shake the nerves away before entering.

The bell chimes at the top of the door as I step inside, and a man at the counter barely glances up from his newspaper. What a warm welcome this is.

Clearing my throat, I take a step towards him catching his attention. He slowly places the newspaper down on the counter as I approach. My skin crawls as I watch his eyes examine every inch of me.Fucking men.

“Hi, I’m looking for someone. I think they might’ve come through here recently. Is there any chance I could check your CCTV footage?”

He continues to stare at me as if I was just speaking a different language.

“Is that okay?” I ask, trying to get him to give me some sort of answer.

He raises his eyebrows slightly, suspicion flickering his eyes. “That isn’t exactly public access darling.”

Darling? Who does he think he is. I push whatever I’m feeling aside and produce a smile towards him.

“I get that,” I say, pulling my phone from my pocket. I lean forward against the counter which in turn, forces my boobs to be more dominant.
