After the game, I make my way up to the VIP section, still high off the win.

The air smells like popcorn, sweat, and champagne. The halls hum with energy, but I spot Ashley before she sees me—tall, camera-ready, surrounded by fans.

She’s glowing. Movie-star beautiful and totally unfazed by the attention.

When she notices me, her eyes light up. “Holy shit, you’re sweaty.”

I huff a laugh, pulling her into a tight hug anyway. “Good to see you too, Ash.”

She groans. “Seriously, youreek.” But she’s laughing, squeezing me just as tight before finally stepping back. “That was a good game.”

I grin. “Obviously.”

She rolls her eyes but doesn’t argue.

“There’s a bonfire tonight,” I say. “You coming?”

She shakes her head, running a hand through her hair. “I’m still jetlagged. Let’s do breakfast tomorrow instead.”

I nod. “Fine. Where are you staying?”

“The Ritz.”

I snort. “You should’ve just stayed with me.”

“I’ll stay next time.”

I grin. “Good.”

She nudges my shoulder. “Now go shower. You stink.”

“Bossy.”

“Always.”

I laugh, already walking backward toward the locker room, glancing one more time toward the now-empty stands.

Frostbite’s gone.

But she’s still in my head.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Asher

The fire crackles, flames licking at the night air as the waves crash in the distance. The whole team is gathered around, beers in hand, still high off our win.

Someone’s got music playing from a speaker stuck in the sand, the deep bass vibrating under my feet.

Ford is here too, lounging in one of the fold-up chairs, pretending his wrist isn’t fucked. He lifts his beer to his lips, jaw tight, playing it cool.

But I see the way he shifts, the slight wince when he moves too fast. Stubborn idiot.

Then I seeher.

Madeline walks up, barefoot in the sand, wearing cut-off shorts and a loose tank top over her bikini. Her skin glows in the firelight, blonde hair tumbling over her shoulders, and my throat goes dry.

Ford’s eyes flick toward her, lighting up in that way that tells me he’s been waiting for her to show. He waves her over, and she smiles, settling down on the blanket next to him.
