“I’d pay to see her do standup,” Lawrence replied, and he was serious.
“Don’t tell her that. She might try it.” Both men laughed. “I’ll pick you up Saturday at two. Does that work for you?”
“It does,” Lawrence responded.
Remy kissed him before releasing him and taking a step back. “Text me when you make it home.”
Lawrence nodded, slipping into his car. Dinner had been fun, and he was eager to see what they would do on Saturday. Hands down, his meeting with Remy’s parents had gone far better than Remy’s with his father.

Lawrence opened his front door to see Remy standing on the other side. He looked as good as he always did, and Lawrence had to remind himself that they were spending the day with his parents. The last thing he needed was to be distracted by how fine his boyfriend was or end up having to adjust himself constantly.
“Hey, baby,” Remy greeted. “Are you ready?”
“I am, but can I talk to you first? It’ll only take a few minutes,” he responded, stepping aside to let him enter. He was sure Remy’s parents were waiting in the car for them.
“Is something wrong?” Remy asked.
“I was on the phone with Alijah a few hours ago. We got on the subject of vacation, and when I told her I would send her my money at the end of the month, she said you’d already paid for it.”
“I did. After a meeting, Kieran, Alijah, and I were talking about it in passing, and I had her send the link to me.”
“We talked about this, Remy,” Lawrence stated.
“We did, and I thought you understood that I in no way was going to let you pay,” Remy started, cupping Lawrence’s chin. “There will never be a time when we’re together that I let you pay for anything significant, whether it’s something you need or want. That’s not how I operate. When you’re mine, me doing that comes along with the territory because I like to.”
“I get that, but—”
“Are you mine?” Remy cut him off, and that shouldn’t have caused the slightest twitch of Lawrence’s dick, but it did.
“Yes, Remy,” he responded.
“Then we don’t need to have this conversation ever again.” Remy kissed him briefly before pulling away. “Now, let’s go.”
They left his apartment, Lawrence locked the door, and they got on the elevator. When they reached Remy’s car, he found Rita and Charles in the back seat.
“Rita, I can sit back there. Why don’t you get into the front,” Lawrence tried.
“Nonsense,” Rita replied. “Get in. We have a full day ahead of us.”
Not being one to argue with his elders, he got into the car, and Remy pulled out of the parking lot. Lawrence knew they would be doing a few different things but wasn’t sure which order they would take place. What he did know was that they’d be getting lunch first.
They pulled into the parking lot of Lucile’s Creole Café. Lawrence loved the restaurant. They had some of the best blackened salmon he’d ever had. Once they were seated inside, Rita kicked up the conversation.
“You told us you moved a few times growing up. Do your parents live in town, Lawrence?”
“They don’t. My dad is back in Nevada, and my mom is in California.”
“That’s too bad. I would have loved to meet them. Maybe we can plan to do so next time.”
Lawrence nodded. “I’m sure my mom would be thrilled about that. You two have similar personalities, and you’re missing each other by a few weeks. She’ll be in town the week after we return from vacation.”
He was sure they would quickly get tired of his dad, and he wouldn’t blame them. Hell, he got tired of him fast most of the time. Rita and Charles were very open and accepting of Remy and his sexuality, and he could see Rita giving his dad a piece of her mind for the insinuating comments he liked to make. If he were being honest, it’d probably be entertaining to watch.
“Maybe we can all get together around your Thanksgiving or Christmas since Remy came to us last Christmas,” Rita suggested.
“I’m sure we could make either of those work,” Lawrence responded.
