Once at her building, Journee unlocked the front door, disarming the alarm before entering her office. Abbie wouldn’t be in until noon, so Journee was alone until then. She turned on all her devices, and as she waited for them to boot up, she made herself a cup of tea and texted Killian, thanking him for the flowers.
She sat at her desk, going over her schedule. She only had three appointments scheduled for the day, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t the possibility of a couple of walk-ins.
After reviewing her schedule, Journee pulled up her file for the client coming in that morning. They were planning a baby shower, and this was their second meeting. Journee had gotten a few ideas from the mother-to-be, and once she received her signed contract back, she began working within the theme.
They would be looking at a few colors and decorations, as well as Journee, getting an idea of the type of venue the client wanted to hold the event in. The shower was in two weeks, but Journee knew they could get everything done in the next few days.
With the beginning of the new year, she didn’t have any projects that took more than a week to plan. Her main focus was on Alijah’s wedding, and with it being a month and a half away, they still had a couple of things to finalize.
Journee had just finished putting out the pastries she’d picked up fromMelts in Your Mouththe evening before when she heard the sound signaling her front door had opened.
Walking out, Journee greeted her client with a smile and led her into the office, offering her one of the pastries and something to drink before they sat down and started.
A little after ten-thirty, Journee heard the sound indicating her front door had been opened again. Her client had left about five minutes prior, so she figured it was her coming back for something she’d forgotten or a question she wanted to ask.
Walking out of her office, Journee was met with another flower delivery person. She went through the same exchange as before, thanking them as she took the two dozen roses. This time they were white ones.
Journee carried them into her office and placed them on her desk. This vase was just as beautiful as the other one. She took in the aroma of the roses before pulling the card from the top. This one read that he just wanted to send her more flowers.
Shaking her head, Journee smiled to herself. She picked up her phone, took a picture of them, and sent it to him with another text message that read,Thank you again. You didn’t have to.
She placed her phone back down and sat in her chair, doing some research before her next client arrived after lunch.
It was twelve on the dot when the sound went off again. This time Journee figured it was Abbie coming in. She hadn’t been wrong as she saw her assistant step into her doorway holding a bag of takeout. She walked it over and placed it on Journee’s desk.
“A delivery man was headed to the front door when I arrived. So, I grabbed it from him.”
Journee furrowed her eyebrows because she hadn’t ordered takeout. As if on cue, her phone vibrated, and she picked it up, finding a text message from Killian that read,I know I didn’t have to. I wanted to.Enjoy lunch. She responded to his text with,Thank youbecause she knew that her telling him again that he didn’t have to would just be met with the same response. By this point, she wasn’t sure why she just didn’t accept his gestures because she knew he never did anything he didn’t want to and wouldn’t be made to feel obligated to do something, either.
Abbie left her office after dropping her food off, and Journee picked up the bag and looked inside it. She smiled, doing a little dance in her chair. He’d ordered her street tacos from her favorite place.
The rest of the workday went on in the same fashion. At two, Killian sent her two dozen more roses. This time, they were pink, and Journee placed them on the decorative table in the corner of her office. At four, he sent her an assortment of cupcakes which she shared with Abbie because she knew she wouldn’t eat them all.
Journee left her office at five-thirty and headed home. She hadn’t gotten any walk-ins and spent the last hour of her day researching and putting together a list of potential businesses for her to visit the following day since she didn’t have any appointments.
When she made it home, Journee placed her keys on the table beside the door before going to her bedroom. She removed her shoes, putting them away before taking her phone out of her purse and placing the bag on the dresser.
Journee went into her living room and turned on the television. She’d just decided what to watch when there was a knock at her door. She got up and went to the front door, looking out the peephole.
Unlocking and opening the door, Journee greeted the delivery woman and took the large Tweety Bird she handed her. The thing was damn near bigger than Journee. She didn’t have to guess who it was from as she thanked the woman and backed into the house. Closing and locking the door back, Journee took the stuffed animal and placed it in the armchair in the corner of her living room.
She picked up her phone from the couch and sent Killian another thank you text. She would be lying if she said she didn’t enjoy the thought he’d put into the day, sending her something every few hours to let her know he was thinking about her and wanted to be there.
At seven, dinner was delivered to Journee’s front door from one of her favorite restaurants. She ate while finishing the show she had been watching before startingthe movieMy Bloody Valentine. When the movie went off, she discarded the food containers in the kitchen.
Journee ensured everything was locked up and the lights were turned out before entering her bathroom and starting the shower. She stripped out of her clothes, stepping in when it heated up.
After finishing her shower and brushing her teeth, Journee rubbed on some body butter before slipping into the t-shirt she’d swiped from Killian during her Christmas visit. She’d just put on her panties when there was a knock at her door. It was too late for any flower shops to be open, but she knew several restaurants would still deliver, and she figured he had sent her dessert.
Journee quickly slipped on a pair of shorts and went down the hallway, turning the light on. She unlocked the door and swung it open.
“Hello, dessert,” she stated.
“Is that the role I’m playing,” Killian questioned.
Journee wrapped her arms around his neck as she rose on her toes. “Definitely,” she responded before placing her lips on his.
He wrapped his arm around her waist, picked her up, and walked inside the house. Journee heard something hit the floor and was vaguely aware he’d been carrying a travel bag. When they pulled apart, he put her down, and Journee smiled up at him.
