Journee placed her hand in front of her mouth as she laughed a little, and Killian chuckled from behind her.

“Thank you, Ziggy,” Journee stated.

Gena shook her head, handing the panties to Ziggy and telling her to do something with them while Thomas laughed at the situation.

Later that night, when they’d returned to Killian’s condo, showered, and watched the other movie she wanted to, Journee called Killian into the bedroom. When he walked in wearing his boxers, she grabbed his dog tags, which he’d had hung on the wall above his dresser, and put them on him. He raised a brow at her.

“I want to be as accurate as possible,” she informed him, pulling his shirt over her head and walking towards the bed. Journee figured she might as well put Ziggy’s gift to use. She’d washed them while he’d been in the shower and dried them while they watched the movie. Making sure it was loud enough that he wouldn’t hear the dryer.

“Who am I to mess with accuracy?” Killian asked, and Journee felt his arms around her waist.

Journee followed Talia’s eye as she watched the woman flirting with Slate. She’d seen the other woman approach him several minutes ago, and she’d been putting it on strong from the moment she had. She hadn’t known what to expect when they’d arrived at Maximus’ New Year’s Eve party, but there were far more people than she’d thought there would be, but so far, she’d been enjoying herself.

“I’m surprised she doesn’t feel the daggers you’re staring at her,” Journee stated, breaking the silence between them as she drank her wine.

“Huh? What?” Talia asked, turning her attention to Journee.

“You heard me. Go over there and get your man.”

“He isn’t my man. We’ve hung out like three times. We’re just friends. He can talk to whoever he wants to.”

Journee snorted. “You’re just friends, but he brought you to a party where his closest friends are. Sure.”

She was sure Talia knew Slate was trying to be more than her friend. She was unsure why the older woman insisted that they were just friends. Maybe she could have believed that was what Talia wanted if she hadn’t caught her trying to shoot lasers from her eyes at the woman flirting with him even though he wasn’t flirting back.

Journee looked around the space and thought, not for the first time, that Maximus’ house was beautiful. She and Killian had flown in earlier in the day, and she’d been given a tour. It was the perfect place to host get-togethers and was decorated beautifully.

Her eyes swept over Axel and Kaydence, who swayed slowly to the soft music playing. She couldn’t help but smile at them. They were still in the honeymoon phase, and Journee was happy for them.

“I’m going to get another drink,” Talia stated, and Journee nodded in acknowledgment.

Once she was left alone, she decided to find her man. People were spread out in the main areas of the house, and when she didn’t readily see him, she decided to check the game room she’d seen earlier.

She found him sitting on a stool at the private bar as he watched a couple of people play darts and a pair go at it on a foosball table. His attention turned to her as she stepped into the room, and he held his hand out to her. Journee walked over, and he pulled her to stand between his legs.

“Are you enjoying yourself?” he asked.

“I am, but for a second, I thought I was going to see a laser show.” Killian raised a questioning brow at her, and she laughed. “Some woman is flirting with Slate.”

“Ah, I see,” he responded in understanding.

“It didn’t happen because, apparently, they’re just friends.”

“Sure, they are.” The sarcasm was heavy in his response.

Journee placed her wine glass on the bar and stifled a yawn as she laid her head on Killian’s shoulder. They’d gotten up at five that morning to catch their flight, and instead of taking a nap when they arrived like he suggested she do, she’d decided to be stubborn because she wanted to help them set up with the other few that arrived early. Now, she wished she had, but they only had an hour until midnight, and Journee was sure she could sneak off to the room they’d be staying in and call it a night after bringing in the new year.

Killian rubbed her back momentarily before standing and sitting her on the stool. He cupped her face and gave her a soft kiss.

“You want to go to bed?”

Journee shook her head. “I’m fine. I can make it through the next hour.”

“You’re sure?”

“I am.” She looked over to where the foosball table had been abandoned. “Play with me.”
