Journee ran through her mental checklist to ensure she had everything she needed. When she’d told Killian she wanted to go on a day trip, and he told her she could have his whole weekend, Journee hadn’t expected him to call and tell her they would leave when she finished her event Friday night. She’d planned on using that time to pack for the following day.

However, she decided that she wouldn’t panic and would make a mental list of everything she needed to pack at the event and where it was so she could get it done quickly after the event ended at nine. Journee had remained half an hour to ensure that those on cleanup knew where everything went, and to socialize with a few of the guests, handing them business cards when they inquired about her services.

It was now after ten, and she didn’t know where they were going because Killian had told her he’d take care of the planning, and she allowed him to choose. The only hint he’d given her was that she needed to bring some comfortable clothes and shoes in her luggage.

“We can buy whatever you need if you forgot something when we get there,” he told her.

Journee sighed, nodding. “You’re right. In that case, I’m ready.”

She picked up her small suitcase only to have Killian take it from her as they walked out of the house. She locked the door, following him to his rental. Journee vaguely wondered how much he was paying for it, but figured he was getting a discount since he was military.

He opened the door for her before going to the trunk and loading her suitcase. Journee closed the door, putting her seatbelt on. She slipped the heels she was wearing off her feet. They were pulling out of her driveway a moment later when Journee turned to him.

“So, where are we going?”

“Somewhere that you can relax and maybe find a unique place.” Was the response that greeted her, and Journee knew she wouldn’t get more out of him. So, she decided to wait until they got there.

“How was the event? It was a gender reveal, right?” Killian questioned after they’d been driving for a few minutes.

“Yes, it was. It went well. I may get a few new clients from it, so I’m excited about that.”

“And wedding planning, how’s that one coming?”

“I have her signed contract, and I’ve been looking for decorations that suit her theme so I can put together a vision board for our next meeting, which is the Monday after Thanksgiving. She’s narrowed down her invitations and flowers. We’ll also look at venues. I’ll meet with her again in December, and we’ll look at vendors and more venues if the initial ones aren’t to her liking.”

“It sounds like things are going well.”

“I guess so, but I’m a bit nervous. This will be a high-profile wedding, and I don’t want to mess it up. It could honestly make or break my career.”

Killian reached over and took her hand in his, kissing the back of it. “You’ll do amazing, and she’ll love it.”

“Thank you,” Journee responded. She settled back in her seat as she remembered him telling her a couple of days ago that he was a partner in Ace’s security firm along with Slate, and the other man wanted to expand. “Did you figure out if offering more services would be doable in the time Ace wants to?”

“Offering the services are, but he’s going to need to push for a later release on them because the training will have to be more intense.”

Journee should have been a little shocked that he’d concluded what type of training would be needed in just a couple of days, but she felt that Killian could handle just about anything quickly.

“Baby, can we stop and get something to eat?”

They’d just stopped at a traffic light, and Killian turned to look at her. Journee was sure it was because it was ten o’clock, but she hadn’t eaten since lunch. Her client had offered her some of the food at the event. However, everything had been littered with what looked like blue cheese, and Journee was not a fan, so she’d politely declined.

“I know it’s late, but—”

“That’s the first time you’ve called me that,” Killian cut her off.

“What?” she inquired, confused, playing back the words in her head. He had to be wrong. “Are you sure?”

The light turned green, and Killian pulled off. “I am.”

“Well damn. I’m slacking,” Journee told him with a laugh, and he chuckled, shaking his head. “But back to what I was saying. Baby, can we stop somewhere?”

“Anywhere in particular?”

“No, whatever we come to next is fine.”

They ended up in a drive-thru, and Journee ordered a lettuce wrap, and a smoothie, while Killian just ordered a smoothie.

Once they were on the road, away from town, and Journee had fed Killian bites of her wrap which she knew she wouldn’t be able to finish when she ordered it, she let her seat back a bit. She wasn’t planning on falling asleep, but things didn’t always go as planned, and she felt herself drifting off.
