Killian hung up the phone after placing the order and leaned back against the couch, propping his feet up on the coffee table. It was ten-thirty in the morning, and he didn’t have any plans. He’d gotten up early, utilized the hotel’s workout facility, and showered before making himself breakfast. He’d texted Journee when he was sure she was awake, and he’d been watching television for the past couple of hours.

He had lunch plans with Slate and Ace at one. So, he’d decided to call and place an order for lunch to be delivered to Journee and her assistant since he couldn’t take her out. He planned on texting her after lunch to see if she wanted to go out with him that evening.

Killian settled on the highlights from the football game the night before. He hadn’t felt the need to watch it then, considering he didn’t care about either of the teams playing one way or another, but there was nothing else that interested him at the moment.

He’d been watching for about fifteen minutes when his phone rang. Looking down at the screen, he picked up.

“Hello?”

“I have been calling you for three days, and you haven’t answered.”

“I’m aware,” Killian responded, rolling his eyes because she had not been calling him the past three days. She called once and texted twice.

“I went by your house. Where the hell are you?”

“First, why are you always going by my house unannounced. Second, I’m somewhere you aren’t.”

“You know I’ll kick your overgrown ass, right?”

Killian snorted. “You do remember; I’m your big brother; you aren’t my big sister, Ziggy.”

“Whatever. But seriously, Kil. Where are you? I know you aren’t off working because you didn’t send your infamous text saying you’d be unreachable for a while.”

She was right. While Kilian couldn’t tell his family exactly where he was going or what he was doing, he would at least let them know when he was leaving for a while.

“I’m on vacation,” Killian responded.

“You’re on vacation?” His sister scoffed. “You hardly ever take vacation time unless it’s Christmas.”

“Yeah, well, I have too much time and needed to use it.”

His little sister remained quiet for some time before letting out a sigh, and Killian could hear her shift on her end of the phone. “So, who is she?”

“What are you talking about?” Killian asked.

“Playing dumb isn’t your strong suit, Kil, but I’ll play. I’m asking who the woman that has you taking your vacation time is.”

“What makes you think there’s a woman?”

‘Well, the last time you took time off outside of Christmas, it was a woman.”

That had been one time when he’d still been young and dumb. How Ziggy even remembered was a mystery to him, considering she was eight or nine then.

“That means it has to be a woman this time?” Killian questioned. He wouldn’t deny it because she was right. However, he never missed the chance to give his little sister a hard time.

“Call it intuition. Besides, when you date, you go all in, Kil. Even though it’s never serious since we’ve never met any of them, more men should attempt dating that way.”

Killian snorted, but he was glad his little sister felt that way. From the time she was born, his stepfather, her father, wanted to show her how women should be treated, and Killian admired that. Had from the moment his mother started dating Thomas, and Killian mirrored that.

“Yes, there is a woman. No, I will not talk to you about her,” Killian responded, picking up the remote and flipping through the channels.

“You’re no fun,” Ziggy responded, and Killian could hear the pout in her voice. “So, tell me what you’ve been doing since you’ve been on vacation, and don’t miss any details.”

“I am not going to do that. Don’t you have friends you can call and bug?”

Ziggy sucked her teeth. “Rude. I’ll tell you about what I’ve been doing then.”
