A green kayak split the water, the guy paddling furiously, so she ran down the bank to video it.
“I see you, motherfucker!” she screamed. “I see this, and I have you on video.”
Just like before, he had a hood pulled up around his head, his shoulders hunched to hide his body type as much as he could. But now she had something else to give the cops.
“Sadie, leave it!” She didn’t want her dog chasing the fucker to New Mexico.
Sadie barked, arguing with her, and Kylie got it. She wanted to bite him too.
“Leave it.”
Sadie gave her a look of pure canine disbelief, but then trotted over to sit next to her. Kylie bent down to rub her ears, praising her. She’d done her job well.
“Come on, girl. We need to send this video to Geoff.” She was going to show it toeverybody. Someone would know. Someone would recognize him.
Joe and Brittany met her as she came back to the shed, both wearing worried looks. “What happened? We heard Sadie barking.”
“He was here. I have video. Sadie chased him out of here.” She felt a little sparkly around the edges.
“Shit! Come on. We’ll look at it. We have time.” Brittany grabbed her around the shoulders with one arm, steering her inside.
Liz and Lupe got her sat down, got her a bottle of water, and she handed over her phone to Brit. She knew how to open it.
The video played, the sound mostly her shouting and Sadie barking but Brit’s sharp breath was clear. “That’s the guy. The one who jumped off my raft at training.”
“What?”
She stood, and Liz moved in, and Joe just growled for Brit to restart the video.
“See? That’s totally the Josh guy. I know because he was wearing that hoodie when he came to scream at me the day after he jumped ship.”
“Okay. Call Geoff. Now. Brittany, you need to stay here and give him a statement. Kylie, can you take her raft?”
“Sure. No problem. I can cover it.” Maybe she’d see the fucker and take him out with an oar to the head.
Brittany’s eyes flashed with worry. “Be careful, babe.”
“I’ve got this. I won’t let our guests have a problem.” She knew that wasn’t was Brit meant, but it worked.
“Mmm.” Brittany rolled her eyes, Joe snorted, and Liz and Lupe both grinned.
“Come on, OG,” Joe said. “Let’s go preflight check.”
“Trade you phones,” Brittany said, tugging hers out. “That way you have one and we have yours to show Geoff.”
“That works. Thanks.” She grinned at Joe. “Time to get wet, huh?”
“You know it.” Joe led the way to the bus and the stacked rafts, and they did the rest of the prechecks just before guests started arriving. It was going to be a damn busy day.
Still, Brittany had IDed the bastard.
They were going to get him, and things were going to get back to normal. She was freaking ready for that. She wanted to go see her mom and dad with Brittany and see what they got up to in the off-season.
She wanted to get their lives started.
Kylie put a smile on her face in the meantime and went to meet guests. “Hey, folks. Welcome to M&M Outfitters.”
