“I know the spot. Is she—It will take forever to get an ambulance. I’ll come.”

“Please. I need help, but she’s lucid and her leg looks to be the big thing.”

Liz let out a huge breath. “Okay. Be safe. I’ll be there in a few, and I’ll call Geoff.” Liz hung up, and she just sat with Ky. She should probably put out a flare in front of her car, but she didn’t want to leave her girl, and she had Sadie to deal with too.

Kylie rested against her, heavy and still. It was like she’d used all her energy waiting for someone to find her. For Brittany to find her.

“I got you, babe. I do.” Brittany would fight tooth and nail to keep anyone from hurting Kylie anymore. Ever.

“I know. I knew you’d come. Do you know what happened?”

“No. No, it looks like your truck flipped?” She was checking Kylie for more injuries.

“I don’t remember. I remember the raft was messed up, and I was taking it back to the outfitters to show Liz.”

“Well, you aren’t with the wreck. I think maybe he panicked and brought you down the road a ways to dump you.” That seemed like something a freaked-out idiot would do. Especially if he thought he’d killed Ky. Thank God he hadn’t dragged her off to the river or something.

“Just so long as he didn’t kill me, right?”

“That’s it. I think he might have been worried he had.” Her heart clenched, and her stomach felt sick.

A siren sounded, and she knew Geoff was coming. He would see Kylie’s Jeep. And no doubt hear Sadie, who started howling.

“That’s help, lady. We’re going to get you to the hospital.”

“Yeah. I need it this time.”

“I know. No ducking out of it.”

“Brittany! Kylie!” That was Liz, and Sadie started fighting the leash.

“Sadie. Sit.” Kylie barked out the command, and Sadie whined, but sat.

“Down here! We need help!” Brittany yelled at the top of her lungs.

“Coming! I have the emergency stretcher and Geoff!”

“Oh, thank God…” Kylie held her hand tight.

“I know. We’ll get you out of here, get you to help. I love you, babe.”

“I love you too, baby. Thank you.” Kylie rested her head back, eyes closing. “So damn tired.”

“I bet. We’ll get you looked at and get you home.”

“And then I’m hunting this Josh kid down and removing his skin.” Liz sounded pissed.

“Yeah. Yeah, that sounds good.” A slight smile crossed Kylie’s face. Then she frowned. “Did he hurt anyone else?”

“Joe says no. They’re all safe as houses.”

“Good. Good. I don’t want the guests scared.” Kylie whispered. “We have to get back on the water.”

“We do.” Liz slid the backboard down to Brittany. “Geoff is coming down. I’ve got the neck brace.”

“She crawled up, but a truck blew her back.”

“Dammit.” Liz sighed. “Scary. Your momma’s going to beat me.”
