“I have to keep some things to myself to keep an upper hand.” Liam winked broadly.

“Silly Daddy, I’m pretty sure you haven’t had the upper hand in a while.”

Liam chuckled at her. “I think you’re probably right.”

Brenden got down more bowls. “I need to run up and get my notebook. I’ll check on Peter and Brittany.”

“Good deal. Thank you.” Liam shot him a grin.

He trotted upstairs, heading to his room to grab a legal pad and pen, as well as more food for Moose. Shopping today.

He heard Peter moving, but when he knocked at Brittany’s door, he got nothing. “Brittany?”

“Go ’way!”

“Hon, you need to get up. It’s time to feed Moose again.”

“Moose?” Oh, there was a hint of interest there.

“He’s starving.” He made it a little bit entreating.

“Is he? I’ll be right there. I need my clothes.” He heard the sound of scrambling.

“Okay. Wear something bright, okay?”

“Okay… I can. Red?” Her door opened, dark hair going every which way.

“Red is great.” He beamed at her.

“’Kay. Red. I’ll be down after I brush my hair.”

“And your teeth?” That was way more important.

“On it!” She rushed for the bathroom.

Peter met him in the hall, an ironic expression on his face. “Nice one.”

“Thanks. I try.”

“She might get up for a dog. Is there cereal?”

“Yeah, and your dad is down there.” He hoped that would be a good thing.

“Really? Cool. He’s usually gone.”

He walked down with Peter. He had to show Brittany some trust.

“Dad. Hey. You want a bowl of cereal?”

“No thank you, son.” Liam smiled at Pete, who went wide-eyed at the sight of Susanna.

“Wow. Look at you, sis.”

“What?” She glared at him.

“You look pretty.”

She made a face at Peter. “Thanks.”
