“Aunty!” Ny laughed in shock at how forward Rhyot’s aunt could be at times. “How do you know he’s taking me seriously?”

“Baby, he’s been taking you seriously since he was thirteen years old. It’s sad that it’s taken y’all all this time to realize it,” Emma said, looking from Nyelle to Rhyot.

Before Rhyot could answer, Weez appeared, pulling him into a brotherly embrace. Weez addressed both of the ladies before he asked Rhyot if they could speak privately.

“Damn, what’s up, cuz! Your ass got out and went under the fucking radar, huh?” Weez stated jokingly. He was Rhyot’s favorite cousin hands down and made sure to hold Rhyot down when he was locked up.

“You know a nigga ain’t trying be out too much. I need to build something for the long run.” Rhyot looked across the lot at Ny and Lil Rhy who were unaware of him looking at them.

“You a family man now, nigga; don’t try to cap.” Weez laughed, bumping Rhyot’s shoulder, causing him to divert his attention back. “But I wanted to holla at you about some shit.”

“What up?”

“Got a lick tonight. This nigga house in Brunswick Meadows. He outta town, it’s gon’ be smooth. Just wanted to know if you’re interested.” Weez put his cards on the table and he gained Rhy’s attention.

Since Rhyot left the BBs and went to jail, Weez had been running shit as far as hitting licks. He was on the rise of becoming the next top jack boy. And as far as Rhy was concerned, Weez could have it. He had spent too much time in a cell alone, only wishing he could be free. Now that he had the girl of his dreams and the most beautiful baby girl, he wasn’t doing nothing to jeopardize that. He robbed Chop of some shit owed to him but breaking into a stranger's home wasn’t something he was willing to do. No matter how simple the shit sounded.

He looked over at Nyelle and Rhyelle again and this time Ny held Rhy in her lap as they both got their faces painted. The two of them pulled at his heart strings and honestly solidified his decision to leave the streets alone.

“Nah. Can’t. I ain’t just moving for me anymore. I got my lil fam. Can’t risk it.”

Weez stared at him hard, eyebrows raised, but then his face cracked into a smile.

“I never thought I’d see the day where your ass settled down and did the family shit, bruh. I’m happy for you.”

Rhyot chuckled, clasping his hand over Weez’s shoulder. “Yeah, my nigga, I found something that ain’t worth losing.”

He couldn’t help but feel the glare of eyes on him. He turned his attention back to Aunty Emma’s table and she was looking at him and Weez with a scowl on her face, probably thinking he was up to his old tricks. Rhyot lifted his cup that she had made for him and took a sip.

Yeah, Rhy was done letting those he loved down. He was ready to make a change, and if that included putting the street life up for good, so be it.

Chapter

Nine

Nyelle couldn’t lie,she was beyond spent. Rhy decided to surprise the girls and brought them out for a day of fun. While Rhyelle was enjoying herself, Ny couldn’t take any more. They decided to hit up the trampoline park. Rhyot had even paid Isley, the hood’s best braider, to do Lil Rhy’s hair, giving Nyelle’s poor fingers a much needed break.

She lingered at the table that held their belongings along with the pizza and drinks. There was no way she could jump anymore. Her legs were sore and her eyes were heavy due to how tired she was. She looked over at Rhyelle as she watched Rhyot do all types of wild jumps and flips.

What got her even more than the flips was how he was with Rhyelle. He had this patience she hadn’t seen from him before, lifting her onto the trampoline, holding her little hands while she bounced around, catching her when she fell like he’d been doing it forever. He even made sure to wipe her tears whenever she cried. When Rhyelle spilled fruit juice on his T-shirt he ain’t even spazz out, he just wore his wife beater.

She made sure to capture every moment with photos and video. She wanted to treasure everything about today. It really was the simplest things for Ny that made her fall for Rhyot evenmore. Nyelle wanted to share her excitement and decided to post a few of the moments on her story.

A few moments later the comments started flooding in:

Jessica Matthews: OMG finally!

Keon Briggs: #FamilyGoals

Londa Nichols: She really looks just like him...wow!

Neeya Collins: Love this for y’all.

She couldn’t help the sense of joy she felt knowing people shared her same excitement for her newfound relationship. She continued scrolling through social media, not looking at anything in particular. An unsaved number popped up, causing her to decline. The number called back and once again she declined, telling herself if it was important they’d leave a message.

The person stayed persistent which caused Ny to eventually answer. “Hello?” she snapped, feeling like she knew this call was going to be some bullshit.

“Bitch, you got me fucked up! Why the fuck would you ever think it was a good idea to play with me like that?” Chop’s voice boomed from the other end of the phone, dampening Nyelle’s whole mood.
