“We’d be dead. All of us.”
“Maybe wearedead?”
“What is going on?” one crew member addressed Tan directly.
“I’m not sure,” Tan admitted. “But we are safe, for now.”
“We need a wizard.”
“What if we can’t find one?”
“What if we do and he’s not strong enough to protect us from this magic?”
The ship bobbed up and down in the calm sea.
You could row in this,Tan thought. Heck, I wouldn’t be afraid to swim in this, even without gills.
“The magic has gone crazy,” Pili whispered. “What are we going to do?”
Tan looked at Pili. He was worried. Tan remembered that when the magic disappeared the last time Pili wasn’t there to see it. He was locked in The Abyss. Tan put his hand on Pili’s shoulder and looked him in the eye.
“Somehow, I don’t think we are going to have to worry about magic for a while,” he said.
