“You’re telling me, you think I should fuck him while he’s bleeding to death?”

“It’s a minor injury,” I insisted. “I’ve had worse.”

“You’ve had worse while your glands were damaged from burns?” She was correct, my glands were never damaged while injured like this, but I wouldn’t die from this with my mate so close. I smiled at her, and she seemed angry. I tried to find words to soothe her, but it was the other female human who answered for me.

“Don’t you speak Cial?” the woman asked my mate.

“What does that—“ Riley was cut off by the female, and I gritted my teeth and growled, a feralness numbing my pain.

“Woah!” She lifted her hands in a show of peace. “What I was going to say was, I’m surprised that you don’t know the culture when you know the language. I’ve read some of the research reports the trill have been conducting on each species, and the necia are a symbiotic lot, females and males need each other’s bodily fluids in order to balance each other’s chemicals. He literally won’t be able to heal until he has female enzymes to counteract the adrenaline in his body. Plus, you know…” She was making a weird face to Riley, wiggling her brow while having some kind of human muscle spasm that made her head bob to the side a few times.

“I’m not necia, how are my fluids supposed to help him?”

“Because you’re my Pulsunne,” I answered quickly, that word slipped from my mouth more easily than I thought possible. I was still half frightened once I mated with this human, these feelings would disappear along with the rut. This warmth and completeness at her presence wasn’t something I wanted to let go of, even if it meant I was in a state of pre-frontal cortex retardation for the rest of my life. I grunted and attempted to reach out to her once more.

“You don’t have to do this,” the other female tried to dissuade my mate from taking my hand. I found I liked these humans less and less the more they tried to seed doubt in Riley’s mind. My shoulder slid down the wall a bit more as my body slumped. I was losing too much blood, and I needed my Riley.

My eyes closed for a bit, before soft hands cupped my cheeks. Blue diamonds watched me with a hard seriousness. “What do you need?”

“Just you,” I rasped out, letting my head rest against the wall and settling within the pedestal of her soft palms.

She rubbed my cheek to keep me conscious.

“He needs your lady juice,” the other female said with exasperation.

“Will that even work? I’m not necia…”

“If you need me to do it?”

I wrinkled my nose in a scowl, about to protest being forced another female’s ellopul once more.

“No!” Riley snapped to my defense, and I smiled. “Do I just, uh, I don’t know… he seems out of it.”

“Just kiss him.”

Soft lips pressed into mine. A warmth spread through my chest, and out to my limbs. I moaned, swiping at the seam of her mouth until she opened for me, allowing my tongue to play against hers. Her hands, once cupping my face, slipped behind my head to deepen the kiss. Then she stilled, trying to pull away. I wouldn’t let her escape this time, not when the taste of her made the ache in my bones morph into something intoxicating.

“I need you,” I said, nipping at her lower lip.

“I can’t. I taste blood.”

This wasn’t ideal, I knew that. My injuries didn’t show how capable I was of protecting her, but they were already healing. Though, not as quickly as I’d like. Medic Shen-La might have been right about my glands being permanently damaged. But my blood should affect her the same way her saliva changed me. Despite her verbal protest, she pressed her lips to mine again. I smiled, nipping lightly before telling her, “I wish to have more than my blood within you.”

She shivered in my arms, and I devoured the moan she gave only to me. My hips rocked, seeking to ease the pressure hardening my cock. I hissed when the heel of her hand rubbed against my length before she cupped the base and squeezed. No female had ever touched me in such a way, like I was hers and she’d claim that with precision. It was my honor to bathe in a female’s ellopul, and seek to drink from her pleasure, but this… this feeling of being held by my mate with such firmness filled me with a joy and excitement that rushed all of my blood to one focus.

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, and I didn’t understand what she meant by that until her hand began to retreat. “I don’t know what came over me. You’re injured, and—“

Reluctantly, I created a space between us for me to make sure she didn’t hide her eyes from me. I lifted her chin to meet my gaze, and I breathed in heavily trying to muster the words through my rut addled mind. Then I grabbed her hand and placed it on my chest, where my hearts beat steadily, but with urgency.

“I will be fine,” I insisted. My hearts were strong, and every touch she gave made me eager to have more of her. She’d tasted my blood, but I could see in her panicked eyes that she was not ready to claim me. I could wait until she was ready.

Then I slid down the wall to rest, my heart full knowing my mate cared for my health. Her hand never slipped from my grip as she followed me down, crouching before me.

A mischievous part of me knew it wouldn’t take much for me to tug her off balance and have her in my lap, but I didn’t want to disturb the way her small hand pressed to my chest, feeling the beat of my hearts. She glanced over her shoulder at the other humans, and then slid her hand down to inspect my wound, where four punctures entered between the bones of my ribcage.

She stared at it for a time and then shook her head in disbelief. “How is it not bleeding?” Leaning in, she rubbed some of my blood off with her fingers and saw that it merely smeared instead of blotting with red once more.

“They naturally don’t have much blood in their first dermis layer, and their bodies are made to heal fast due to the nature of their defensive bone structure that tears through that layer frequently,” the other human female explained. But that didn’t account for the injury to my lungs, or my burned glands. The superficial injury was fine, but internally there was still some mending to do.
