His dismissal leaves me both frustrated and pleased. I can’t deny that having him in bed with me and Connor is one of the great pleasures in all of my long life. Still, I worry that he’ll wake up one day and hate us for trapping him when he should be getting his ya-yas out.

Unless I’m one ya and Connor’s the other. “Come on,” I say, and lead him into the rear office. The manager and I have a brief conversation. He and David haven’t met before, but the conversation is about money, so I’m okay with David listening in. I’m still hoping he’ll agree to represent me during daylight hours.

The scene has wrapped up by the time we leave the office and we make a silent trip to the car. Only when we’re well on our way to the house does David speak.

“Why do you run a club like this?”

“Because I wanted to have a reason to meet people and, you know, stay in touch with what’s going on. Customers might not want to visit a fine-dining restaurant run by a vampire, but for a sex club, my nature would be an attraction.” My answer surprises me a little, but that doesn’t make it any less true.

“Makes sense,” he says, “but you must get off on it a little.”

Do I?I shrug. “Connor isn’t into kink at all, and I was completely happy in a monogamous relationship with him.”Except for the lies. “If you were to say you wanted to try this or that, I’d help, but if you don’t, no problem.”

David spends the rest of the drive staring out the window. When we get back to the house, he turns to me, his expression serious.

“Do you like getting tied up and smacked around?”

“Nope.”

“That’s what I thought.” He unbuckles his seatbelt. “I’m pretty sure I’d hate it, and I don’t want to do something to someone else if I won’t let them do it to me.”

“But what if that someone else asked you really, really nicely?”

He gives an exasperated snort. “I’d tell them to talk to Sheena.”

“But you’re okay with bottoming for me and Connor.” Which is a different thing, but not entirely unrelated.

“As long as you don’t tie me up first.” His grin is the first spark of humor he’s shown since we got to the club.

I hold my breath, waiting to see how he’ll handle my next question. “But do you ever want to top one of us?”

His eyes turn sly and a little embarrassed. “Maybe.”

With that, he jumps out of the Range Rover. I follow, amused by his reaction. I rarely bottom, but if David Collins asked me really nice, I just might.
