“Died the moment I killed my sister’s rapist,” he said without a hint of emotion.
I glanced at Boogie who gave me a small nod. He had already done his research on them, and it seemed he checked out.
“Great, you don’t seem like a sexist asshole,” I said getting up. “Boogie will give you the details. If you choose to stay, I will see you tomorrow.”
He nodded at me before I walked out of the room like Boogie had instructed me to. This was my show of power. I ran Christmas town and everything I did now would reflect on me.
I was no longer the scared girl. I needed to be Noelle, the bitch who showed no mercy. She wasn’t afraid, and she ruled with an iron fist because as a woman, men would always try to undermine me. Not many men wanted to see a woman rule, and seeing Boogie kill twenty men because they refused to follow me, this showed me how far men would go before they would ever allow a woman to rule.
Chapter 2
King
The day I agreed to run Halloween town, I never imagined I would want anything more. I had Boogie by my side, we killed, sometimeseven the right people and we got to do this together. I had everything I needed here, until now.
I walked the grounds before we opened, completing my weekly inspection. We wereopened all year long, even if the winter months were slower. People loved Halloween all year long and a lot of them enjoyed a haunted house no matter the time of the year.
It had been three days since I had left Boogie and Ally, and each day I hated it more and more. A part of me wished she hadn’t taken the job and an even uglier part of me hoped the Mayor wouldn’t let her keep the job. I know it made me an asshole, but I fucking loathed not being near them.
Boogie was due to come back today for a job we needed him for, but it made me even more worried that she would be left alone. I had a bad feeling about her being alone, and I hoped they found someone to watch her back, because as much as I would love for one of us to be with her, we had our own empire to run.
“Boss.” I raised a brow at Mars who walked next to me. “Here's the info for tomorrow.”
He handed me a manila folder that held all the information that we would need for the hit. There weren’t many jobs we did together, but this was an important person, and we were each other’s contingency plan. It also wasn’t just one person. It was the CEO and the CFO of a big energy company.
“Thanks, Mars,” I said, as I quickly looked through it.
Thankfully, it was close by, and we wouldn’t need to fly anywhere.
“If you time it right, I think the hotel garage would be perfect,” Mars suggested.
“Boogie suggested the same thing, but I think maybe an accident might be better,” I said, closing the folder. “Less eyes on us and no investigation. Or maybe even we dust off the good old murder-suicide.”
“No one would believe a murder-suicide.” Mars rolled his eyes.
I shrugged, “Never say never. Worse things have happened. Hell, maybe we might burn down the hotel they are staying at.”
“That’s a lot of lives,” Mars said, putting his hands in his pockets.
“Still gets the job done,” I shrugged.
“Yeah, but?—”
I glared at Mars as he instantly shut up.
“Sorry, boss…
“When I need your opinion, I’ll ask for it,” I growled, walking away from him.
I took a deep breath as violence threatened to emerge. As I finished my run-though quickly, I headed back to my trailer to calm down before I killed an employee or worse, Mars. This wasn’t a feeling I was familiar with. I was usually in control of myself, but tonight I was volatile and I hated it.
My skin itched as I breathed through my discomfort, and talked myself out of driving to Christmas Town. I took a quick detour through the haunted house, wondering if I could find someone to kill for the night. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to spot some asshole who didn’t deserve to be on this earth. I spotted Sarah, ready to put my request in just like Boogie did, but something held me back.
“Need something?” she asked.
I shook my head. “Just making my rounds.”
“Okeydokey.” She skipped to the next room.
