Today I’m sending Scarlet an itinerary for her flight here and moving her into the penthouse. Today I need to tell my brother. Telling Vasilisa will be a bonus because she, ever the hostess, will take to Scarlet and force my brother to be cordial.

At least that’s the hope.

That she can tame the monster.

Walking into NovaRael is like stepping into Santo’s mind; precise, methodical, stripped of anything unnecessary. The floors are polished, the glass panels so clean they nearly vanish. Everyone inside walks fast, talks low, and doesn’t make mistakes.

Santo clones.

I chuckle.

I get to his office doors and his secretary is missing.

Desk empty, half-full coffee cup, the only sign Evie was even here.

That’s the new normal since Vasilisa spends all day here with him.

The caged bird found new cages. Shinier. Closer to him. But still cages.

I sigh and knock on the door.

A giggle.

Muffled voices.

Santo’s voice comes through clipped. Annoyed.

“What, Evie!”

I push open the door.

Santo’s eye brows raise in confusion and it hits me immediately.

I’m interrupting.

Vasilisa is perched on the edge of Santo’s desk, her cheeks flushed and her hair mussed.

Santo stands in front of her, straightening his tie. Papers are scattered across the floor, a few dangling precariously off the desk.

Vasilisa turns her head quickly, trying to smooth her hair. She gives me an apologetic smile, her blush deepening.

Santo’s glare slices through me.

“In theofficeSanto?” I chuckle amused.

“My office. My wife. What do you want?” he asks flatly, his tone sharp enough to cut glass.

I close the door behind me, biting back a smirk.

As much as I appreciate seeing Santo a little off his game, I’m not here to push his buttons.

“I need to talk to you.Bothof you.”

I glance at Vasilisa.

Her brows furrow.

Santo crosses his arms over his chest.
