“You’re going to kill him,” Hannibal said. “Then all this shit will be for nothing.”
Revels gasped for air. His eyes watered and he coughed as he tried to pull air into his lungs. I needed to calm down because I couldn’t get those answers if he was dead.
I crouched in front of him, then pulled off his polished dress shoes. Then without any warning, I forcefully plunged the screwdriver into his left foot, piercing through flesh and bone. Then I did the same to the right.
His screams were like music to my ears. If my father-in-law was here right now, I believe I would see a proud smile on his face.
In the chair, Revels convulsed as he let out a piercing scream, desperately calling for help. We were so deep in the woods that his pleas for help would be swallowed by the silence. Laughter filled the room as we witnessed the transformation of the confident Agent into the whiny bastard before me.
I stood and gripped him by the chin, forcing him to look at me. “Are you ready to talk yet?”
“Fuck...you...”
I dropped his chin and shook my head. “Well, Revels. I didn’t want to bring your wife into this because I don’t like bringing women into shit.”
His eyes widen. “Leave her the fuck alone!”
I punched him in the face. “Like you left my wife alone!”
I hit him square in the jaw again and again.
“Tell me what I want to know, or your wife dies along with you! Who are you!”
“Leave my wife alone and I’ll tell you.”
I laughed. “Tell me what I want to know, and I’ll think about it.”
He thought for a minute about what he needed to do. I didn’t want to kill her but if it got me answers, I’d slit her throat right in front of him and not think twice about it.
“Tell me.”
“Fergus MacDaniel is my father. I’m your brother.”
WHAT THE HELL DO YOU GAIN FROM ALL THIS?
J.D. Stevens
I ignored the gasps and curses echoing all around me.
Brother? I don’t have a brother.
“You’re fucking lying.” My fists clenched at my sides. “I would know if I had a fucking brother.”
He scowled at me, his eyes burning with intense animosity. “I wouldn’t expect Fergus to mention me.” He spat more blood from his mouth. “I only know about you because he would bring you to my house when we were younger whenever he wanted to fuck my mother. He wasn’t in my life, like he was yours.”
I heard the bitterness in his voice—his words dripped with resentment and envy. But I didn’t have the picture-perfect life he believed I had. Fergus was abusive, physically, and emotionally to me and my mother. Then when she disappeared all of his anger was aimed at me.
One day she was there, her presence filling the room, and then the next day she vanished without a trace. Fergus always insistedshe ran off with her lover whenever I asked and would constantly tell me she didn’t love me. But I never believed she didn’t love me. And I couldn’t really blame her for leaving.
I closed my eyes and tried to remember if it was even possible that Revels was telling the truth but my memories after my mother left were hazy. I assumed because of what I suffered I couldn’t remember much other than the abuse. And once I was old enough to get away from him, I took my mother’s surname, left for the east coast, and never looked back.
As I wiped my hand down my face, my frustration and anger intensified. What does all of this have to do with my wife, damn it?
“I don’t give a fuck if you’re my brother. You killed my wife and my son!”
His eyes met mine, and a sly smirk appeared on his face. “All she had to do was what I told her. She refused. So, the plan changed.”
“What plan?” I asked.
