I pecked her lips. “Thank you, sweetheart.”

I turned to the brothers. The men I trusted not only with my life but hers. I just hoped whatever we planned didn’t backfire and all of us paid the price.

I'M HERE REBEL

Rebel Pierce

My hands were shaking. I shook them out and blew out a breath. I was sitting on his lap, behind the desk in his office at the clubhouse.

“You don’t have to do this,” J.D. whispered in my ear. “We can find another way.”

I wasn’t nervous about making the phone call. I was worried about the aftermath. I was more concerned about what would happen to him if all of this went to hell. He could either die or go to prison. And I didn’t want either to happen. But as soon as I made this phone call, it would be my fault if something went wrong. It would be my fault if Siobhan had to grow up without her father. And it would be my fault if the man, I loved wouldn’t be in my life.

“I’m not nervous about making the phone call.”

“Then what is it?” He grabbed my hands. “You’re shaking.”

“I just don’t want anything to happen to you. If I do this, that’s a very real possibility. Then Siobhan will grow up without her father and I won’t get to have a life with you either.”

As he sighed, he pulled me into his warm embrace. With my head against his chest, I enjoyed the warmth of his body and the softness of his embrace.

“There’s nothing I can say that will kill that fear for you, Rebel. I won’t lie to you. There’s a real possibility that all hell will break loose.”

“You’re not making me feel any better.”

“Do you want me to lie to you so you’ll feel better or do you want the truth?”

“Of course, I want the truth. I’m just having a hard time thinking about the consequences of what I’m about to do.”

“Sweetheart, that’s why I’m not pressuring you to do this. I can find another way to get to Revels.”

Breaking free from his hold, I met his gaze directly. “But this is the easiest way, right?”

Even though I already knew the answer, I needed to ask. As soon as I called to have a meeting with Revels, he’d jump at the chance. All I had to do was convince him I was ready to give him whatever he needed to take J.D. down. I had no doubt what Revels would do, but the possibility of anything going wrong loomed over me.

“Yes, I think it’s the easiest way,” he said. “But it’s not the only way.”

I grabbed the burner phone J.D. gave me earlier to use from the desk, dialed the FBI Field Office then pushed the speaker button. There was no more debating it.

Charlotte FBI Field Office. How may I direct your call?

“Could you please connect me to Agent Alan Revels?”

Please hold.

As the phone rang, I exhaled a breath of anticipation. J.D. squeezed my hand providing me some comfort. Despite my rattled nerves, I mustered the courage to do what needed to be done. My focus was on finding answers, not on the potential consequences if everything went wrong.

According to J.D., the guys had come up with a foolproof plan that left no room for error. My only task was to convince Agent Revels to meet me at the designated place. Although I wasn’t entirely convinced it would work, I hoped everything would fall into place.

“Agent Revels.”

“It’s Rebel Pierce.”

He fell silent for a moment, and I exchanged a wide-eyed glance with J.D. He was probably already suspicious about me calling. Doubts crept in, making me wonder if this had been the right decision. J.D. motioned for me to keep going.

“Are you there, Agent Revels?”

He cleared his throat. “Yes. I’m here. How can I help you, Ms. Pierce?”
