“It was Earl! Earl ran her off the road. But Abrams paid him to do it and the coroner to cover it up. I just helped him cover up Earl and the coroner’s deaths. Please... please... don’t kill me.”
“Why did someone pay him to kill my daughter and grandson?” Rev asked, anger vibrating in his voice.
“I swear. I don’t know. Please... I confessed... I told you everything I know.”
“Where’s Abrams?” Demon asked.
It was the first time he had spoken since Rev started his shit, but I knew my brother-in-law. He was livid that this bastardknew what would happen to Dani and didn’t do anything to stop it.
“I don’t know. Haven’t heard from him since that bitch started digging around.”
“Who?” I asked.
“He said her name was Rebel Pierce. That’s all I know.”
I looked at Caesar. “Call Tiny, now!”
Caesar rushed up the steps of the basement and out the door. I redirected my gaze towards the detective. I summoned all the hate I could for the piece of shit in front of me.
“Here,” Rev said, handing me the small knife he had without me even asking.
I grabbed it and turned my attention back to the bastard.
“This is for my son.”
I forcefully plunged the blade into the side of his neck, feeling resistance before finally pulling it free. His body jerked and spasmed as blood spurted from the wound. He looked at me in shock, his eyes wide, and his mouth gaping open, blood trickling down his chin. A grin spread across my face, impossible to contain.
“And this is for my wife, motherfucker.”
I drove the blade under his chin, and the sickening sound of flesh being pierced filled the air.
“Now it’s time to find the other motherfucker,” Rev said.
And for the first time in my life, I actually agreed with my father-in-law.
“I’m on it. Trust me. His days are numbered.”
WHAT A F*CKED UP WAY TO GO
Rebel Pierce
As I fumbled with my keys, I couldn’t help but glance over my shoulder, feeling a sense of unease, as I struggled to unlock the door to my apartment. My damn hands wouldn’t stop shaking. I can’t count how many times I almost lost my grip on everything I carried because I was terrified.
Once I unlocked it, I pushed the door open and rushed inside, shutting it behind me.
Somebody was following me. As soon as I stepped out of the coffee shop and made my way home, a sudden chill ran down my spine.
I’d always been aware of my surroundings. I didn’t know where the instinct came from, but I’d always been hyper vigilant of what was going on around me. And today, I could feel someone’s eyes on me. It didn’t matter what street I turned down trying to keep them from following me to my home, and no matter how fast I walked, it was like they were always there.Although, I didn’t see anybody, I knew they were only a few steps behind me.
“What’s wrong?”
I screamed so loud my sister jumped and I dropped everything in my hands. As my purse, the oversized coffee and a pair of muffins slipped from my grasp, scalding liquid splattered in all directions.
“Goddamn it, Rumi!” I hissed with my hand against my chest as I glared at my sister. “You scared the shit out of me.”
This was the very reason she shouldn’t have a key to my place. What if I was fucking J.D. and she just walked in on us? That would mortify her, but it would serve her right. I had a key to her place, and I never just let myself in anytime I wanted to. If she wasn’t home, I just came back later.
“Are you alright?” she asked with a genuine look of concern on her face. It made some of my anger dissipate. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
